We went in there because the net was adamant that there was an ivory Jesus in there... but we found none. Still, the church is lovely, it's fresh and nice for a little wander or prayer.

The church itself is drab but the paid visit to the classical cloisters with its blue panoramic tiles and access to the roof for outstanding views of this oldest section of the city is worth the admission. Tram 28 stops out front but walking down along the line is an education too.

I stumbled across this place on a wander (if up a seriously steep slope can be called a wander) and agreed with other views that it's petty but not essential.

Architecture of the building is amazing, but that is all. Rest is classic and the same as other churches are. If walking in this neighborhood you shouldn't skip it, but you will not miss much if you don't come by.

Just a very pleasant church but nothing special. Although it became special to me because I lit a candle for a dear friend who had just passed away.

This is well worth a visit. Immaculately presented church and beautiful blue tiled cloister and Monastery. Great value at only 5€. The view from the roof is quite something and well worth the climb. If you like Royal history this is a must see.

Beautiful church both outside and in, without having an overwhelming decor. Allows for quiet reflection and peace.

This church is a large one, but it is not a must visit place. The cloisters might be nice, but there is a charge (€6 I believe).

As always in Lisboa, if something is slightly to the side, amount of visitors is disproportionally low. While mainly people to come to see the church, they miss visit to cloister which includes visiting roof with panoramic view. Cloister if wonderfully decorated with painted tiles, and from the roof opens lovely view towards Pantheon and river.

One of the churches in Alfama and I passed by Igreja da Sao Vicente de Fora; I was walking around Alfama and taking photos, you won't miss this church when you are at Alfama.

Staying in Graca & Sao Vicente

Neighbourhood Profile
Graca & Sao Vicente
You can be thankful that most common travel guides don't mention Graça and São Vicente that often. Part of Lisbon's historic center and "Old Town", they feel like independent villages in the capital's center, and more untouched than Alfama. Amazing views, restaurants and parks, as well as important monuments like the S. Vicente Church and the National Pantheon, make this a spectacular option for those looking for a more tranquil walk-around in the center of Lisbon. Graça has been the choice of many younger people over the past years, both nationals and expats, given the cozy feeling of the neighborhood and its hidden secrets.
