Most of Lisbon is just a big city covered in graffiti but not this neighborhood. Wandering through the alley ways will take you back in time. This is also where you want to listen to Fado music. There are plenty of restaurants to have a delicious meal while listening to beautiful, heart wrenching Fado music. Some restaurants you will need reservations mostly the inexpensive ones but we were able to wander right in....

During the day this area is pretty charming, at night it turns into ‘stag do city’. Genuinely just full of drunk people in noisy bars and clubs spilling out onto the streets. If you’re on a couple or family holiday - I would avoid.

This neighborhood has a very different feel during the day- very quiet but charming 3 story buildings, whereas at night, there are many small restaurants with great shellfish dishes.

We took the tram and got off at random stops that looked like fun. it felt like we had walked back in time. Great architecture and history. Fun squares to people watch and explore. Fun wine bars scattered throughout the area. Enjoy

Lot so hotels, restaurants and shopping. Walkable to all of the main sites except Belem. Loved the Christmas market and lights throughout the neighborhood

The Bairro Alto, Chiado and Baixa are great historic neighborhoods in Lisboa with tons of entertainment. Just be careful as the streets and sidewalks are narrow. Drivers in Lisboa are very polite, so it should not be a problem.

There are a lot of things to see in this neighbourhood. With nice cosy streets, the trams and the locals you will meet portugues traditions in a nice way.

Many of the best bars are in Barrio Alto. We love going there but I think people should realize some streets get packed late at night. You will meet many people and hear music coming from every corner, but it can be really cramped when trying to find a table, or even standing outside.

Tons of restaurants for every budget, beautiful architecture, and lots of activity all around - a very fun place to wander.

Our AirBnB was located in this district, which we found to be very interesting. Many of the streets seem typical "old" European style with the cobblestones, narrow streets, wrought iron outside the windows, big old wooden doors, laundry hanging outside ... some of the things you picture in your mind when you think of old European cities.

One of the things that amazed me most about this area is how it was constantly either steeply uphill or downhill, and sometimes up and then down and then up again all within just a few blocks, depending on if you were one block closer or further away. It's hard to explain, but the hills seemed different than other hilly cities like San Francisco.

There are little shops, pasteleria (bakeries), cafes and restaurants. We were a couple blocks from the Principe Real and Rua de O Seculo. Our top floor apartment had a balcony with a nice view. We did not find it to be noisy at night, but perhaps we were a couple of blocks from the main nightlight. We found many of the popular sites to be walking distance (as long as you don't mind walking several miles over the course of the day.)
