Although I think there is less to do in Barrio Alto than Chiado, I liked the area for that reason. It is quieter, less touristy and less built-up. Nice place to walk around a get a sense of the city without the crowds.

Amazing small alleys and streets to walk on and get some feel as to how Lisbon is as a city. Full of people both local and tourists, cafes, bars and restaurants which come to life especially on a night time. Only negative comment will be...More

Come up here during the day and you will wonder what all the fuss is about. There are churches and museum to visit but it all seems a bit quiet. However as darkness falls Bairro Alto lights up. Get the Elavador Gloria up just before...More

The tiled houses are good to look out for. The whole area is pretty with some buildings being attacked by graffiti and some left alone.

Wonderful pedestrian friendly neighborhood of bars and restaurants just jam packed against each other in the narrow streets. The establishments are so close together it is sometimes hard to tell where one leaves off. This area is definitely a focus of Lisboa night life.

This neighborhood is great for night life. Plenty of bars and restaurants. We experienced some live music that was awesome.
