Neighbourhood: Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

    The little Fado that could
The thing with highly rated places is that it brings up their popularity and in a small and cozy place like this one you get in through reservations only, which we did. If by the second break people have left you might be able to get in. A variety of singers with styles of their own will give you Fado at its best. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the owner loves our Quebec signer Ginette Reno best so what’s not to love??!! Get yourself a bottle of wine, have a couple tapas and enjoy the evening. You won’t regret it.
Thank you so much for your sympathy !

    Marvelous evening
What a marvelous place to hear Fado. Over the evening a variety of voices ( 7 different singers) provided a full view of the art form. This felt like how you might have encountered Fado years ago. A very small bar without pretension. The food and wine are tasty but it's the music you are here for. Some of the singers were warm and endearing storytellers, several highly accomplished, soulful and connected and on the night we went one singer was absolutely riveting and truly extraordinary. All were backed up by a duo that provided skilled, sensitive and encylopedic accompaniment. The hosts are most genial and the place is a simply wonderful venue to immerse oneself in Fado.

    This is a gem.
We were looking for a nice, authentic place to listen to fado, in a non-commercial environment. We almost gave up, as most fado in Lisbon take place in restaurants offering poor food with mandatory overpriced menus. By chance, we found this gem of a place. And we loved it. We had several sessions of fado each with different singers (male or female). The songs were beautiful. Each fado session was quite different, allowing us to enjoy the wide range of what fado can offer (we are no fado expert one bit) It is not only that the music was beautiful but the whole ambiance was spot on, no noise at all when singers sang, very respectful. The place is tiny, and it adds to the whole experience. The waiters were extremely nice and welcoming. We ate good food and drank good wine when we were there, but you can also only get drinks if this is what you fancy. There is no minimum set charge like most other fado places. So despite the fact that there were other tourists like us in the place, it did not feel tourism oriented, but actually very genuine. It is a very small place, so one should definitely book beforehand.
Thank you so much for your sympathy !!! All the best Helder

    Great Fado night
What an amazing find. Having read the reviews I contacted Helder by email he responded immediately a.d as we were aiming on going on a Saturday evening we reserved a table which I would highly recommend. When we arrived there at opening time there was a group of people none had reserved, nobody got a table they were fully booked. Once seated orders were taken promptly an we were served our basic but very tasty tapas and a cold bottle of green wine. This was the first time we had experienced fado the emotion fro. The six different si gers was different on each occasion an resulted into an excellent night's entertainment. I would like to add that tourists should respect the performance a d that they should sit in silence whilst they perform. We stayed tull about 10 and as we left there was a still a line outside hoping to get it. Helper you a.d your staff are a credit to your establishment. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you.

    Cozy place for excellent fado
This was the highlight of our trip to Lisbon. The owner was extremely welcoming and kind. The singing waitstaff were great at both. There are 4-5 fado singers, so a nice variety of voices and styles. There are some songs where the audience is encouraged to sing a chorus. Musicians were excellent. The singers and musicians take frequent breaks between sets to order food/drink and use the restroom. We did not have food, but the wine list was surprisingly extensive for such a small place and we had several different very nice and affordable glasses of wine. This is a small, narrow, long space and some of the seating is on stools; all of it is close to other patrons. The front tables are within 2 feet of the singers and musicians, who stand in front of the front door. There is also a side door exit/entry. Cash only. Bring extra cash for cds and to tip the musicians/waiters. Email for reservations in advance—it fills up. Definitely worth your time!

    Fantastic experience !
We had a wonderful evening with friends here for a first fado music experience. The space is really intimate and the singers and guitarists were outstanding. There is no cover charge for the venue. Food and drink is basic- meats/cheeses/hummus/olives so we ate a little a late afternoon meal and this was perfect. Doors open 7:30 . Food and drinks served shortly thereafter and performance starts at 8 pm. We stayed for about 2.5 hours, you can leave and/or order more food/wine about every 30 minutes at intermissions . Truly a fantastic experience when in Lisbon !

The most passionate, inspiring, genuine fado - amazing musicians.
And super warm and friendly staff. Very reasonably priced. Not another expensive tourist restaurant. Bit place for everyone. Locals and tourists. Sometimes singing a bit uneven but this is because it's real and genuine. Amazing hours spent there.
