This national shrine is the site where three young peasant shepherds spied a "lady brighter than the sun," which was, many believe, the first of six apparitions of the Virgin Mary in this region of Portugal.

....This was one of my favorite things to do in Portugal. Watching "believers' walk on their knees to the shrine, hear the story and watch the rosary and mass was very moving to me- even as a non-Christian

This is a very impressive place to visit. We enjoyed the atmosphere...it wasn't crowded in November when we were there. The candlelight procession is quite moving. However, all the souvenir shops selling religious memorabilia are a bit off-putting. This is pure commercialism..nothing to do with...More

The train from Coimbra and taxis to and from the train station to Fatima were long but worth it. Since it is winter, it was not crowded and we were able to attend mass and even managed to be seated and get Holy Communion. Managed...More

This place was wonderful but I think will be better visited during a regular day to appreciate it more. There are 2 churches, the old and the new and both are really amazing! Plenty of shops beside the shrine. Expect terrible queues if you come...More

Very spiritual experience. Enjoyed all the celebrations...Mass, candlelit procession, rosary; quite small crowds due to time of year made everything very accessible. Would certainly recommend

Although I don’t connect usually, this is a special place. The many different churches are for sure architecturally interesting and the environment is one of faith and belief. Beautiful experience.

This was one of our last stops on our tour of Southern Portugal, and it was incredible! We rented cars and were able to park for free in the parking lot close to the basilica. There were very few visitors here in mid-December, so this...More

We went on an organised pilgrimage for the centenial celebrations it was a wonderful experience. Only regret going with Alba Tours as tours were rushed and tourguide grumpy. Fatima is easily organised by yourself as there is plenty places to stay close to shrine and...More

I don't know. I would just Google the question and you will find the answer. It's worth a visit anytime of the year. Also visit Coimbra Portugal if you have a chance.

Just outside the airport are the buses called Aeroport Express and for 4 Euro it takes you to Sete Rios Bus Terminal in about 45 minutes. The nearby Metro costs only 1.90 Euro and it takes half the time. At Sete Rios you can... More
