As most people head to Portugal`s Algarve an alternative visit is Cascais. This is a beautiful resort on the west coast next to Estoril .Came across it about 5 years ago when visiting Lisbon and since then have been back 3 times.
Lots of activities including beach volley nets. Decent sized beach with lots of room. Near lots of restaurants. You can take a stroll and sit and watch the beach goers or the small little boats docked.

We were here on a relatively cool Saturday, and even so the beach was quite crowded. I imagine it's shoulder to shoulder on a warm weekend day. The sand is incredibly soft; the water is clear, but no-one seems to swim here. Lots of thongs....More
