The library portion of this visit is amazing. The chapel is something to see, but the former palace is disappointing, at best. An expensive price tag just to see the library, but worth it. The rest of the tour is a bit disappointing...sorry to say.

A beauriful library, all wrapped in gold and filled with old books. A must see in Coimbra. Curious fact: they have bats living there so they can maintain the place moth free and keep the books safe

Full of tradition, Coimbra connects past, present and future...true to the past, it aims at being a modern university city. The Biblioteca Joanina is an absolute treasure. Must see.

Absolutely amazing! It’s worth waiting in the queue at the ticket box to be able to see it. The highlight of the visit to the university area.

What an amazing spot. Surreal with the gold leaf and great wood carving. The books take a back seat to all the grandeur.

Very impressive bibliotheca, however the basic entry price of 12 euros does not include any guide or commentary, so it is probably worth considering paying a little more for a tour.

It is rare to find such a planned room and even so one that is so complex and integrated. Portuguese Joao V design at its best. Beautiful.
