University was set up before America was a country. Site was also a palace. It was cool to see. The library is an absolute must to visit. We went on a Sunday when the town was virtually dead quiet. Got in when it first open.

Very impressive library. The architecture inside is just amazing. Don't be scared you might encounter a bat 🦇 or two during your visit. Sorry NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED

As soon as you walk through the doors you can smell the books and you are struck by the sheer magnificence of the building. You are not allowed to take photos so you really focus on your immediate environment. I kept imagining Harry Potter to...More

Definitely worth the steep walk up the hill to see, great architecture and a view of the whole town below. If you want to go inside the library make sure to book in advance.

The library is gorgeous. It smells like old books and is humid to keep the books from drying out. It's a Baroque masterpiece and a tribute to learning. You are limited to 10 minutes, but that's really all you'll need. Your guide will show you...More

This is a must , beautiful building and very large collection of old books. No pictures are allowed.Interesting thing is that bats are helping to keep bookworms in check.

I am arriving at the Library tomorrow with a group of people. Do we need to pre book before coming? Is the library near the old town? Thanks in advance :)

You should not have to pre book. Arrive earlier and look for the ticket office at the University entrance. The library is close to ticket office within the walls of the old university. As you certainly know, the... More

Hi, I've read that there is a long waiting line in order to get into the library. I tried to make a reservation via the official site of the library, but they indicated that they are making reservations only for guided tours. Is there any way to reserve the visit time or to avoid long hours of waiting? I really want to visit the library and I have only 1 day in Coimbra, so I'd like to make the best use of my time there. Thanks! Miri
