We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Waterfront church built on the site of the original 1492 church. This facade with its two bell towers was built in 1728 and connected to the Santo Espirito Hospital until 1833.
Inside, its beauty surpasses that of the Se Cathedral. There are 6 chapels, a single nave, a chancel for the Holy Sacrament, a 200 year old organ and various religious artifacts. The choir loft is impressive. The underground galleries are where human remains were buried in the past.
The Church is dedicated to the patron Holy Christ of Mercy. In front sits the statue of Magellan overseeing the quay. The steps lead to a fountain display.
It is well worth your time and considered one of Angra's most impressive sites.

First thing we did after arrived in Angra is to walk around. It is under renovation. There was a rehearsal for Christmas concert. Bells toll every hour from the twin towers. It stands by the mariner welcome every person arrives since this island was discovered.

This church is privately owned and therefore, an entry fee is charged to take a tour and/or pictures. At first unsure whether it was worth the cost, I’m glad I decided to go ahead and get the guided tour. Our tour guide provided us a very detailed history of the Azores, its people, how it was settled, the history of the church, hospital, and explained the purpose and history for each of the chapels within the church. The tour we received was well worth the cost of entrance. As I understand it, the entrance fee is collected so it can go towards the numerous outstanding repairs and renovations the building needs.

The outside of this church is quite ornate and beautiful and the inside is more ornate than the nearby cathedral. There is a small fee for entrance if you are not their for religious purposes. Across the street is the statue of Magellan.

Every time we came from our hotel we would walk by this church. Sometimes the doors were open & sometimes closed. Today we waited for the 1:00 opening & what a treat! The main chapel in this church is solemnly exquisite. The muted colors & softly recorded organ music are restful & contemplative. Climbing up to the pipe organ gives an entirely different vantage point.

This is the Misericordia Church in Angra and we loved it. The visit is paid (small fee) but it's well worth the price as the guide was very helpful and explained everything with much detail.

Small donation for tourists, free for worshippers. Looks from the outside a bit like the white and blue church in Praia, but the inside is a lot more elaborate in decoration. The climb up the stairs and the views from the second floor are worth the donation.

They are trying to raise money for renovations for the crypt (I really wished I could have seen that), but the info the guide gave us wasn't super helpful. The 3 Euro entrance donation is not really a donation-more mandatory to enter, unless all you're doing is praying. Walking up to the organ and seeing the views from the top were really worth it though.
