As seniors : we decided to drive to parking lot then walked to very top. Your driver needs to be very confident through narrow streets and hairpin turns, The chickens and ducks are a bonus; the views are stunning in all directions. Weather changes rapidly so as always on the Azores in November, bring layers!

I visited this park on my last day in Angra. After following the path around the (still active) army base, I reached the park. The park has many trails that are easy to follow, but still a bit steep, and will lead you to vistas where you can see whale-watching stations, remains of former fortifications, and even the caldera of the extinct volcano. But it did get weird. Climbing up the trails, I saw chickens, feral cats, Guinea fowl, and even fallow deer, and peacocks? At the top, there was a monument, and mobile binoculars, where you can look at the city from below. (I located my hotel, among other buildings) A definite must for anyone visiting Angra do Heroismo.

I wish we had planned to spend more time here. While it was a great quick stop for beautiful photos, this is more than just a lookout - it is a nice park. There are some hiking trails, a playground and places to picnic. Next time I’d plan to spend a couple of hours and bring a picnic.

One of the most typical places to visit on the island. The hiking route is relatively easy and there are beautiful views of the island. The bad thing is that there is a kind of zoo where the animals are in terrible condition. How sad to even see this in Europe.
