Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We saw this memorable monument already at the entrance to the city from the airport. He was surprised, because Portugal in General and especially the Azores are not associated with bullfighting and bullfighters. However, it is very popular on Terceira. Another thing is that it is different. If in Spain bullfighting is an aristocratic and expensive occupation, then the local bullfight with a rope (tourada à corda) is entertainment for the peasants. Bulls are teased, dodged, but they are never killed, so there is no reason to ban bullfighting, as has already been done in Catalonia. Bullfighting is held right on the streets, the audience is behind the fences of houses, on balconies, on trucks, etc. We went specifically from Angra to Heroizmo to the neighboring village. A monument to this occupation was erected in Angra relatively recently in 2011. The 11-meter monument was built by local sculptor Renato Costa e Silva. Three bulls covered with brass are placed on a metal frame so as to preserve the centering of the monument, which probably required the sculptor to calculate the balance. The result is a spectacular monument that can be photographed from any point.

Thes statues representing bulls not only relate the tradition of Bull release in the streets but also a part of History when bulls were sent against Spanish troops.

In the middle of a traffic circle, it's a nice enough sculpture of 5 bulls. Good to get oriented in the many exits to the highway.

This is a nice sculpture outside of the rebuilt (1984) bull ring. Worth a quick visit but that's about all.

This is a pretty stunning 3D art piece - we happen to stay in the area and could walk easily to it but most people pass it by each day driving through the area - which is quite a shame as other than from the outer rim of the roundabout=the actual sidewalk you can't really see the details - especially with the cars driving by.

Is it a must? Not really, but I happened to spend my birthday in Azores, and Terceira in particular and happen to be a Taurus so needless to say I had to snap a picture with my "friends"! :)

TIP: there is a smaller bull statue close by as well - again another random location for a pretty nice work of art

First I dont agree with animal cruelty in any form even for entertainment. I do realise other cultures have sport entertainment ingrained in their history such as bull fighting , dog racing or rodeos.
I can appreciate the history, culture and art without participating in the sport.

Worth A Pause To Snap A Photo For A Few Minutes, it’s just a roundabout and you will probably pass it on the way into town from the airport, the bull ring is across the street from it.

In this day and age, bullfighting needs to be abolished EVERYWHERE, whether its embedded in culture or not. They still have the running of the bulls here, and almost most of the island seem to turn out, to taunt the bulls and hit them on the head with sticks, umbrellas etc. This ISNT fun, either for onlooker or the poor Animal. Yes you have been doing it for centuries, isnt it time to STOP and do something else, that dosent include the innocent bulls??
