This is one of only two places in the world where you can go inside of a dormant volcano. The photos don't do it justice... Just go!

It's about 300 steps down and then up again but well worth seeing. This is the only volcano that you can go into as far as I know. It looks like something from an Indiana Jones movie. Awesome!

Over 300 steps down the chimney of an extinct volcano. It's drippy and cool inside so wear something. Lighting is good and the excursion was enjoyable.

Stunning experience inside a volcanic cave. It was surreal, like something out of a movie. Beautiful and educational.

This was one of the stops I was most looking forward to as we planned out trip to Terceira, and I was not disappointed. As you approach the location, there's not much to see, just a simple building. But as you descend into the volcano,...More

This was a great thing to see! How many people can say they were inside a volcano!! As long as people realize there are lots of stairs to climb back up they will thoroughly enjoy the experience!!

This was an amazingly beautiful experience. This was my first time being inside an old volcano and words and pictures can't even begin to describe how awesome of an experience this is. Check times before you go, there is limited hours to help preserve this...More

The cave, as you’ll learn, is site of a volcanic eruption many, many years earlier. Information provided, as well as hosts, will explain why the cave is shaped as it is, and the natural growth of plants and stalactites found within. Overall, and most importantly,...More

I believe it's open all year round. We were there in January. It is only open in the afternoon. Enjoy your trip. I love the Azores!
