Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You won't miss this when visiting Ponta Delgada since the church stands right next to the city gates. I suggest going there at night if at all possible for a very different feel of the church. Very impressive!

This is a beautiful church inside and out in the pedestrian area of Ponta Delgado. The contrast of the black and white is stunning and unusual to see. There are benches with trees and flowers around the church and a great area to enjoy a drink and people watch as we did.

The church is in the heart of town. The interior is large and quite beautiful. It’s exterior is equally impressive at night. Added bonus: the huge clock keeps accurate time and has a nice chime.

Wide church very central downtown Ponta Delgada. Worth a quick look when you pass by, but not worth a detour. We would have like some information about its history. The islands have such distinct and amzing churches, this one does not stand out among the others.

It was pouring rain with a cloud cover of a few feet. We were glad we weren't doing one of the Island tours. Off the cruise ship we shuffled about Ponta Delgarda looking for somewhere dry and interesting to visit. Not to be irreverent but we are not particularly religiously inclined so entering the church was more of a curiosity. The architecture and ecclesiastical symbolism has been beautifully covered by other reviewers so I'll leave that as written.
Our revelation came suddenly and clearly. The church spoke volumes of the people of the Azores. We could sense through their church who they were, how they felt and what they valued. Centuries of struggle on small islands in the Atlantic, bolstered by their belief and faith, made the church the anchor of their society. You could actually feel the comfort of their sanctuary. It was a moving and revealing experience. It's well worth a visit.

This beautiful church of the 16th century is located near the Portas da Cidade (Gates of the city) in the centre of Ponta Delgada, in very close proximity to the port. Opposite the church you can find a nice cafe where you can drink a cup of cappuccino enjoying the view

Lovely church in the middle of the City. Classic architecture. Close to all attractions, but a place where you could just be quiet and with The Lord..!

Amazing church one or our favorites. Great history and beautiful inside. Very old. The priest was very willing to share the history and took the time to talk to us at length

I was in Ponta Delgada over the Easter Season and it was wonderful to see this beautiful church and to hear the lovely music provided by a great choir.

I found this place to be a wonderful connection to my past. The church is next to a convent where my Grandfather was placed "on the wheel" in 1876. the wheel is where people could drop off their baby and have the nuns find homes for them. It is in fact a wheel that is partitioned such that neither the give or receiver will be seen while the baby is spun to the nun.
