The two parts of the Carlos Machado Museum must not be confused. Nucleus of sacred art includes: - The church of an ancient monastery (there was the Jesuits College); this church has an altar with wonderful wood sculptures and probably rare in the world. It...More

We stumbled across this museum while walking around Ponta Delgado. I took as many photos of the old wooden chairs, stair railings, and arches as I did of the bird and animal exhibits. I would have enjoyed the video of the cloistered nuns more had...More

This museum is newly opened. It combines a display of convent life with a naturalist display of birds and aquatic life. Certainly worth the €2 entry fee.

Discovered this museum by accident, but is well worth a visit - the paintings and sculptures are amazing.

Typical buildings in Ponta Delgada, with very limited exhibitions in both the museum and in the chapel.

The chapel itself is beautiful, but the museum holdings are slim. The largest exhibit is the sculptures of Ernesto Canto da Maya. But DO see the chapel at the Museum of Sacred Art nearby.
