- Hadley96Dover, Pennsylvania290 contributionsFree samplesA free self guided tour that offered free samples at the end. We enjoyed it. The people that work there are really friendly and helpful. They have other snacks for purchase, which were delicious. We walked there from the cruise port.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 September 2023
- TravelerWithOpinionsBoston, Massachusetts526 contributionsWell worth the visitIt was fascinating to learn how pineapples are cultivated and to see greenhouses full of pineapples at various stages of growth. It was particularly wonderful to see a flowering pineapple plant. There is no fee to enter the plantation or to park. You can walk through 2 greenhouses. Explanations are accessible via QR codes on big posters. At the end, you can have free pineapple jam on toast and pineapple liquor and order fresh pineapple to savor. The staff are very friendly and helpful.Visited November 2023Written 15 November 2023
- CarolineLanc295 contributionsInformative visit to Azorean pineapple plantationLovely visit yesterday with husband. Informative display in English and Portuguese showing pineapple growing cycle. Tasting of pineapple jam and liqueur with opportunity to buy products from shop and sample others at on-site cafe. Pineapple caipirinha and juice were both yummy and the plantation’s pineapple was a revelation with its zingy taste. Would definitely recommend if you want to while away an hour in Ponta DelgadaVisited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 December 2023
- FredDeManVolgograd, Russia46 contributionsWorth a quick visitThere isn't a whole lot to see here. Basically it's a walk through several greenhouses showing the stages of pineapple growth. We piggybacked on a bus tour guide which was much better than wandering around alone. There's a nice cafeteria selling everything pineapple flavoured. The pineapple gelato is especially nice. It's definitely true that these pineapples are better than the more common Hawaian style ones.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 March 2024
- LouPOrford, Canada219 contributionsSimple self-guided tour at a walkable distance from Ponta DelgadaVery nice and easy self-guided tour. I didn't have mobile data and was sad to not be able to use the QR codes of information, but the very friendly staff connected my phone to the wifi so I did the whole tour again to enjoy it with the online information. The whole visit is short but very informative and easy to complete. It has a short video, a small exhibit and two grenhouses you can walk through, plus 14 QR codes you can scan. The tour is free, so it felt normal to go to the restaurant and/or the shop to try some products and encourage the place. We tasted the fresh pineapples and... it's cool that it's fresh and local, but it's not the best nor the sweetest pineapple we ever had. We enjoyed the vinegar and the liquor though! We heard that the Arruda plantation was more interesting, but we are very satisfied with this one, especially considering that it is at a walkable distance from downtown Ponta Delgada.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 June 2024
- Travel Blog Anna Blunschi371 contributionsMy favourit attaction on São MiguelWe visited several places and attractions on São Miguel, but I think this was my absolute favorite. The pineapple plantation was incredibly interesting, and you learn a lot about the history of pineapples on the Azores. The visit is free, and you can see the different stages of pineapple growth. What I really loved was the souvenir shop where you could buy some amazing products. To make sure you actually like them, you could order a tasting platter and enjoy it in the charming backyard. The platter was delicious, and of course, a tasty cocktail like a Piña Colada was a must. For me, this place is an absolute must-visit on São Miguel.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 August 2024

This is a short self guided tour where you visit several greenhouses and observe Azorean pineapples in their various stages of growth. Afterwards you enter a cafe under a tent and are given free samples of pineapple jam, toast and pineapple liqueur. We purchased 4 different scoops of natural ice cream and the flavours were exquisite. Pineapple is very tasty but also very expensive to buy. Staff is very friendly but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this small plantation.

The visit was very nice, you can walk through the pineapples and see the different growth stages. After that you can have some drinks or pineapple at their bar, the staff is ultra nice (they even gave us some pineapple jam to try), i’d recommend their pineapple caipirinha. overall, it’s just a must to visit it!

There isn’t a whole lot to see at the farm. You do get to walk through some of the green houses with the more mature pineapples. They also have some videos and displays of the growing process which were interesting. The pineapple tasting and the offerings at the cafe are really good with fresh pineapple, drinks and other pineapple snacks. You dont need much time to spend here.

I had really looked forward to visiting a pineapple plantation here, and was excited to find that there was one just on the outskirts of town!
The self guided through the greenhouses with QR codes with information (free WiFi offered). The PDL minibus, Linea Azul, stops right near the entrance.
The free samples were appreciated and the menu begged to be explored. I had a sliced pineapple and a delicious Caipirinha.

"The Best Pineapple in the World" grows inside special greenhouses scattered around this Paradise called São Miguel.
On the outskirts of its capital you can see many of them, but this is the place where you must stop. You'll have a view over some greenhouses built in the 30's and a very well made tour that sticks to the essentials on growing this gift of nature called "ananas" in every language in Earth. Except, eah... in English.
This was a fruit that conquered the world in just a few decades during the age of European explorations (this much I know), and seeing it here in full blossom and getting to taste it was nothing short of amazing.
The best part: the great staff that helps you. Get to know them a bit and ask around, they'll tell you even more 'juicy' stuff.

...genuinely very impressed! This place is awesome.
It was very interesting to learn about the magical journey of the pineapple, but the fact that the whole thing is free, including free pineapple liqueur and jam is amazing! Friendliest staff in the world, and the lunch toasties were brilliant. The QR code tour was actually really interesting too -- I had no idea how long it took to grow them! We spent about an hour here.
