Lagoa do Fogo is usually covered in clouds, thus it's name. But the winds will change the view all the time and the place looks mystical. As you drive you will see several parking areas and from each you will get a little different view of the lake/area.I wish my knees had not been so sore from previous hiking, as... More

My wife and I hiked to Lagoa do Fogo via the “PRC-2-SMI Praia – Lagoa do Fogo” trail. The hike is about 3.5 miles from the trail head to Lagoa do Fogo with the first mile or so being challenging because of the almost 1000 foot gain in elevation. The challenge is worth it – the Ribeira da Praia valley... More

There is no public transportation to take you there. So you either drive, get a taxi, or join some tours. You must go on a nice day, otherwise you will only see fog and clouds. You will be looking down towards the lake from above. We took a bus from Ponta Delgada to Lagoa, to see the ceramic factory (not... More

Stopped at the thermal baths, nice, clean facilities for changing, washrooms and showers. Short walk into the facility, can do a steeper more challenging 350m hike for views over the mountain. Wear older bathing suit as the waters do stain. Very relaxing.

Located on the beautiful and verdant São Miguel Island, in the enchanting Azores Archipelago, Lagoa do Fogo is the second largest Lagoon on the Island of São Miguel, and also the highest. It has been classified as a Nature Reserve since 1974. It is one of the places not to miss when visiting this wonderful island.

This place is located in the Fogo volcanic area. You pay entrance and then walk through a thickly forested area where you half expect a tyrannosaurus to accost you. There is a small lake under a waterfall with changing facilities. The water is warm from the underground volcanic activity and the waterfall is also warm water and quite exhilarating. Watch... More

Amazing sight from top of mountains to lake. The road is very steep but the sight is worth. When we were the weather was very windy and cold.

Not as known as the Sete Cidades. However I found this more raw and awe-inspiring. Clearly the prettiest of Sao Miguels crater lakes. Its good to have your own transportation to get here. We stayed in Vila Franca do Campo, and it was practically just a short drive north. Driving up the clouds and mist started coming in. There are... More

Cloudy in late October (rainy season) but spectacular none the less. Avoid rainy season for optimal views.

My favourite view in the world until now. I cant describe in words what I felt and what I see. But anyone in the world needs to see this. AMAZING!
