We enjoyed stopping there for the outlook. We regret that we didn't know that is is possible to go down by the lake. Actually, go to Miradouro da Lagoa do Fogo, there you'll find a path down.

First impression as one gets out of the car is the cold!!! Used to warm temperatures, when you reach the miradouro you will face some wind and cold! But one compensates with the magnificent view of the Lagoa do Fogo. Quite big! There is a...More

Spectacular scenery , almost difficult to describe such amazing landscape. One of São Miguel's best and most famous location. You have to be lucky with the weather, if there is no clouds or fog, don't miss it.

This is my second time driving along this road, it is the passion, especially at morning coming from Furnas, there are many points to stop, to view, but it seems this year is hot, no fog at mountain, as before 4 years.

Been there in late september. Excellent view over the lake on a clear day. Easy to get there with your own car, which is in fact the best way to visit the island. Don't go if it's cloudy, you will not see anything.

Lagoa do Fogo is a nature reserve area dominated by this enormous, clear water lake!...with white sand beaches! Simply STUNNING! A MUST SEE....if you ever get the (lucky!) chance!

Very beautiful volcanic lake. If weather is good, it is must to go down from the road to the lake. Path is easy. It is so stil downthere, and you can only hear many birds. It is possible to sweem, but wather is cold.

What a great lake. When we arrived it was foggy so we couldn't see the lake from the top. We went hiking down and we started to be able to see this beautiful lake. The lake is really breathtaking and the surroundings stunning. We went...More

We were lucky to have a clear day and this is one of the highlights of our time spend on Sao Miguel. The view from the vistas above are stunning. I highly recommend a visit!

The lake is really stunning. there is a beautiful view from the parking at the viewpoint but you could also go down a pretty steep road to get to the lake. We did also a walk around the lake (you can get to a certain...More

I don't believe there is public transport to the mountain. We rented a vehicle and drove to the top(rim) and then hiked down. I did notice several couples coming from the bottom and hiking up as we were going down. There are... More

There is a paved road going to the top of the hill overlooking the lake, but I really would not see it as a hiking area. You would want to take a vehicle to the top. Once there, you will find plenty of easy places to walk... More
