Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This church/museum is well worth the effort. It is very beautiful inside, and the views outside are very nice. We were fortunate to have spent an hour with the very nice and knowledgeable museum guide, Alvaro, learning many things we did not know. The paintings and painted tiles are spectacular. Don't miss this opportunity when you visit Sao Jorge island in the Azores.

The church has a simple facade, but the interior is in a baroque style. All the walls and even the ceiling is covered with gilt work, paintings and statues. Visit is free and a guide can give you a tour if you like. That is also free, but you can leave a donation in a box.
The area around it is lovely, the church is set at a small bay. Worth a visit.

Probably not worth a special trip all its own, but if you’re taking a tour of the island of Sao Jorge, do schedule time for a peek at this church. The paintings are stunning, very elaborate.

We stoped at many churches on every islands and this one is very special with its decor of copper covered in gold leaf, and it ceiling displaying a boat-like structure. It was free to visit on Sunday, and we had a private guided tour, that we unfortunately didn't fully understand because English is not our first language and the church was echoe.

I was reluctant to visit this church at first. Our guide insisted we go inside. All I can say is that I'm glad we did! Absolutely gorgeous church and a great story about its origins as well.

One of the highlights on the whole island of Sao Jorge. It’s plain and cute from outside, but the inside is a jewel box of decoration. The friendly guide stationed there speaks good English and will show you around.

We went to visit the church yesterday but it's still closed for restoration. From the outside you can't see much because the church is in scaffolding. At this moment there is in our opinion no reason to descend to Manadas.

This church is set in a beautiful location. However, it is currently covered in scaffolding and access was not possible on 2 July 2016. There was no information about when it would reopen.
