This is the destination in the hiking trail but I did not find it really something to see. We just passed by it and head straight to Faja dos Cubres. The trail from the mountain to this place is amazing though.

We hiked in and out, had some beach time in the caldeira and then we hiked up 20 minutes to find the waterfall for another dip in the ice cold water..This place is very special with a very special religious history, ask a local about it. The restaurant down there is top notch. Views are out of this world. Only way in is by foot or ATV. Next time, we plan to hike in starting at dawn from Topo, which would be downhill...on my bucket list for sure. Leave your car at Faja dis Cubres. It’s a day trip or even better, plan to camp overnight there. Not a lot of amenities..rustic!

We started from Faja dos Cubres to Santo Cristo. It is about 2 hours one way, quite slowly with children. You must return back the same way of you came by car to Cubres. There are great views during the trail. There is only very simple refreshment in Santo Cristo.

There is a beautiful hike between faja dos Cubres and faja do Santo Cristo. I started at Norte Pequeno and walked down to the firs faja (passing by the beautiful miradouro from where you can see both of the fajas). Exploring the first faja, then along the coast (following red marks) to the second one - at both there is always a cafe/restaurant so if you're coming in the season, you can probably get something to eat there. I came in late October so the restaurant was closed. It also looked as a good surfing spot and for the lazier/less fit people there was an opportunity to get a lift by a quad bike. From the second faja I continued up the red marked trail to the road ER 2-2 where from I hitchhiked, as it was enough for me as a day trip. But you could also continue on the trail from here to Faja dos Vimes on the other side of the island, where the only european coffee plantation is located.

I had one day on Sao Jorge on my round-trip to 5 of the 9 Azores islands. And you had to get up on the *highland* to get an impression of the surroundings. That meant you had to drive and walk to view the highlights of the island - like Lagoa da Faja de Santo Cristo. Beautiful view on a wonderful clear blue sky and on a sunny day. The island surprised me - still my favorite island became Faial (not having seen the smaller islands Corvo, Flores, Graciosa and Santa Maria)
A must see-view when you visit Sao Jorge!

S. Jorge is probably the nicest island of Azores and Faja de Santo Cristo is its ex-libris.
Yes, you have to walk to see it like you should... but it deserves the efforts.

this is a very beautiful and easy hike down and also much fun for children. it took us 3 hours to walk down though as we stopped almost everywhere, rested and made a little picnic and took like hundreds of pictures. once down you could swim in the natural pool and stroll around the little houses. and theres the one and only restaurant/cafe to eat and drink something and as we had left our car at faja dos cubres (our landlord was super kind and took us in his car to the starting point of the hike) thankfully, the restaurant called us a quad bike to take us to our car at faja dos cubres. a 20 minute ride and cost 20 euro. that was fantastic and saved us so much time!

Breathtakingly beautiful hike, very easy, but 6km always downhill, so you need to take your time. Rodrigo was our guide - he is very good and a lot of fun !

This breathtaking hike can be done in one of two routes; either from the top of the island or from one of the fajas. Both give beautiful scenic views. From the faja, you can hire a quad to take you in otherwise it's about a 45 minute walk. This lagoa is know for surfing, swimming and has a well known festa every September. Lots of great little places to stay the night as well if you choose not to tent.
