Good views over Silves and cheap entry fee

Cost to get in was just under 3 euro per person . There are discounts for over 65 and students . Under 10s were free I think . You get great views over Silves and the castle is... read more

Visited the Castle several years ago and on this visit it's immediate they have made improvements. Walk way round battlements is uneven so be careful. Could do with more information points to explain the various turrets etc. Also, if you want to get the reduced rate for over 65 then you must have birth date proof! My companion had her... More

Cost to get in was just under 3 euro per person . There are discounts for over 65 and students . Under 10s were free I think . You get great views over Silves and the castle is well maintained . If you pay a little extra for admission you can also visit an archeological museum but we just went... More

Not that much to see, mixed old and new bricks. The female receptionist was very good and helpful and spoke very good English. It's a must to visit if your in Silves

This was a surprise, not only was the castle impressive with its views, but the cafe has some of the most unusual home cooked food, try the orange cake or the fig combinations, especially on a poor weather day.

We loved the castle and the views but we were surprised to see many places where would have expected guard rails. In spite of that, we found the exhibits interesting and there is a very pretty coffee shop restaurant in the centre. It costs a bit to get in. It took us about 30 minutes to feel that we had... There are bigger fortresses in Portugal but this one has been well restored. There is a nice cafe inside with good washrooms. The one in Monsaraz is certainly more impressive and it is free.

The castle at Silves is a good excursions with children, for an hour or so. There are no activities" or "re-enactments " of any kind, so it is more of a walk around and explore, but very cheap entry and great views. There is a café (licensed) within the walls, and also a café just outside to the right (opp... More

I had the chance to visit the castle last summer because of a weekly event they use to have, Secret Sunset. The Castle itself is probably the most visited moment in the Algarve together with Sagres. Highly recommended. We had dinner inside the castle and enjoy the concert during sunset. What a wonderful scenario! As many other monuments in the... More
