Okay it’s no Windsor Castle, but what do you expect? Climbing up the walls and along the ramparts was fun (though might not be if you have small kids) and the views are good.

A well worthwhile visit. Entrance only 1euro 40 cent. You can walk all around the parapets but not for the faint hearted as a distinct lack of guard rails having said that the walkways are mainly over 6 feet wide. Will certainly visit again.
We enjoyed walking along the wall, taking in the views, walking the paths through what once were living quarters. The steep steps into the cistern, now a display area, leads a visitor to understand the importance of collecting and storing water future needs.
Drove to Monchique area and then on to Silver. The Moorish Castle has an interesting history as does the quaint town. Visited some interesting artisan shops and purchased some tiles. Also took in the Church and city museum. Well worth the visit.

It looks great from the outside but the inside was a disappointing and not what I expected. I thought the Lynx exhibition was a bit strange and didn’t really make the connection with the site. It cost under 5 euros for entry to two sites...More
