Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The building works of the church started into the year 1498, this in annex to the old Hospital of the Misericórdia. The stonework frame on the side door was installed in the early 16th century, and the church underwent expansion works into the year 1556 and repairs into the year 1657. The portal will probably have been part of the first building, while the window frames and the upper niche may have been placed at that time, or added later. Although it was also damaged by the earthquake in the year 1755, it became the mother church of Lagos because the Church of Santa Maria da Graça was totally destroyed. It was rebuilt after the earthquake, and the bell towers were probably built at that time. The Church of Santa Maria was later ruined by fire, having been rebuilt in the late 19th century.

If you go to Lagos you have to visit this church, I think the most important in the city
It is a typical Portuguese church, located in a wide and beautiful square, it is old but was partially restored after a fire
It is worth noting the strange mural behind the altar, where a battle between orange and purple angels is depicted.
It is not a grandiose church but it is worth it to see its tiles
In the sacristy there is a collection of images from the 18th century, one of which highlights the image of the Menino Jesus Rei, dressed in period costumes.
Just south of the church there is a restored stretch of the Lagos city walls, it is worth following the walk through the city from there

Worth a visit if you're passing but nothing particularly special about it to make you go out of your way.

Not as big or as ornate as many other churches we have visited in Portugal but well worth a quick look in as we were passing

A nice little space to enter and visit for a few moments. Nothing spectacular or super informative inside, but it is a refreshing church that is clearly an important part of the religious community living year-round in Lagos.

This church is beautiful inside, the main alter appear three dimensional with the crucifix being set some distance behind the church wall. Lovely place to visit and think of loved ones

Located near the canal , this lovely little church might pale in comparison to the big guys in Lagos but well worth a quick look & maybe dedicate a candle or two ?

Visited in the evening when there was poetry and singing, it was wonderful! Great atmosphere. I am not sure if there is an entrance fee, as I didn't visit during the day.
