- Ali AAuckland Central, New Zealand3 contributionsBeautiful piece of Portuguese historyWe stayed here for a week with our little pug whilst we explored the area. Not only is the Palacio beautiful, the rooms are very comfortable and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We were all (including Mei Mei) made to feel very welcome. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, the bar food choice limited but very tasty toasted sandwiches, and the room service food from the dinner menu was delicious. Thank you a most enjoyable stay.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 October 2023
- munchkinkatySt. Catharines, Canada280 contributionsBeautiful but at a costI took my mother here to see the gardens as she is a plant enthusiast. Good to know before you go: it's 3 Euro each to enter and the gardens are accessed by stairs. We saw the palatial parlours and most of the garden, but 3 Euro entrance is steep for what you get.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 March 2024
- Magda BBaltimore, Maryland70 contributionsBeautiful palace gardensWe visited Estoi palace gardens only as we were not guests at the hotel. The gardens, although amazing has really been in despair and it takes a walk to get to it. Worth the trip if you have a day in Faro or Estoi area.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 June 2024

We drove all the way to the palace from Carvoeiro, the palace is closed to visitors including the restaurant due to COVID. It’s a small hotel and they are only allowing guests staying to visit at this time. Gardens can be accessed thru the center square. Not worth the visit at least currently.

As it is now a hotel, only guests can access. Even the garden in locked with big gates and no one can go inside. As it has big walls around it it is impossible to take any pictures. I don’t understand why Portuguese government sold a public building. Anyway not worth the visit

The palace was started in the 1840's but not completed as the guy died and it wasn't until sixty years later that a local businessman took on and completed the project. It is very much in the style of a mini Versailles, very formal and gaudy, but the king was so impressed when he visited that he made the owner a viscount so he must have done something right! It then slowly decayed until bought by the state and restored as a pousada (state owned historic hotel) in 2009.
We didn't go in to the hotel but we did walk around the gardens and probably spent a couple of hours. There were some uniquely Portugese touches, with the tiled facades, and it was very pleasant and relaxing to walk around in the sunshine. Very empty too! We did see some vandalism of the statues and graffiti by mentally challenged imbeciles but sadly there were no stocks with the bodies of malefactors slowly rotting in. The gardens have a couple of sets of benches and are largely laid to fruit trees. There was one overworked lady trying to maintain it all but I guess, like everything else, covid has limited the money that is available.

There was no access to the garden or hotel/palace. The staff were unhelpful, rude and dismissive. The staff would not even let us enquiry about lunch in the restaurant instead just opened / shut the door.
You can access the secondary garden at the back of the estate which is obviously unloved.
I wouldn’t waste your time on this place.

We have just returned home after spending three days at this hotel attending a wedding of our close friends. I have to say after a disappointing dinner on one of our nights, credit must go to Diogo whose service recovery was outstanding and for organising our gastronomic experience on Saturday lunch, the food and service was outstanding. We must also thank Bruno the hotel’s director as well. The food and service we received at the wedding on Sunday was excellent. Rooms are large and spacious. The Palácio is absolutely beautiful.. I would highly recommend this hotel and we would stay there again. Excellent..

According to what is written at the entrance it is "just for guests". We even could not see the big hall. So if you are entering or living Algarve forget the renovated Palace of Estoi and its gardens. The bar is closed, maybe this policy will change after the pandemic, but I doubt.

It's difficult to find the entrance as we just wanted to visit the garden not stay at the hotel. The reception was over-crowded and we didn't want to be nosy as we only wanted to see the gardens but it was impossible to get there without entering the hotel. And besides that there is absolutely nothing to do in this town/area..

There is a proper car park in the town of Estoi at the bottom of the hill. Or as we did you can park the car on the side of the street near the palace.

Hi,
The hours for meals is 12:30 to 3:00 and 7:00 to 10:00. As it is a poussada, you can get there earlier and visit the beautiful rooms on the main floor. The view from the patio is spectacular. As we thought of staying there overnight, we asked to see the rooms. They are on a lower level and very modern. If you like to purchase a souvenir, they sell a bit high end jewelry and the like.
Enjoy your travels!
