Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the only reason many people flock to Sines. The birthplace of Vasco Da Gama- the traveller. The fort where his father worked and probably where Gama was born. His statue looks majestic since it’s sea-facing in the old city at a height.

There is plenty of parking (at least in winter) as well as eateries. After lots of tours in Algarve and Lisbon, this is a nice place for relaxing. Just roam around the old narrow city streets and look at the vast ocean.

2202/May. Monument is located right outside of castle. Viscon da Gama was a Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India by sea. His initial voyage to India by way of Cape of Good Hope was the first to link Europe and Asia by an ocean route, connecting the Atlantic and the Indian oceans

the castle ground was open with toilets inside. However Fort and rest of indoor areas are all closed.
Outside there were plenty of free parkings with restaurants ans pastry shop just right by the castle wall.

As it is located high up, clear view to the beach and Harbor nearby while walking on the castle wall.
And and cute little quick stop on my way to Algarve from Lisbon. 15 min for the castle. 10 min stop for coffee and pastry. Beach seems nice too.

The statue of Vasco da Gama is next to the old fortress, dominating the beach with the small yacht marina.

Went to Sines with great expectations, as it being the birth place of the great Vasco Da Gama. However the statue, and the castle (four walls only) was a big let down. Particularly as Sines also has various graffiti artists.
We walked into the high street got some bbq'd chicken which was basic but good, drove around the village to the sea side (not the parade) and got some great sea views for a 15 minutes break. All in all, the village has a story to tell which unfortunately is not brought out. There are other place in Portugal which are more interesting to visit.

Beautiful view from where the statue is. The castle next to it is even better. A great place for some pictures.

Very pleasant hotel, inside (rooms and common spaces)and outdoors, kind and effective staff. Particularly good for couples of any age and families with children. We were there with our 15 months grandchild. He LOVED the playground.

Parked at the bottom and walked up to the statue. There was a great view of the town and sea from there and at the top we had a wonder around the little streets and cafes. Very pleasant.
