If you are thinking about sightseeing in the south of Portugal, don't hesitate to stop by Beja. Besides the castle you can visit the town itself, as they have some beautiful churches as well. The food in Alentejo is very very good so is also...More

Beja is definitely worth a full day trip. Lots to see, from the castle to the churches. Plan in advance if you want to see interiors as some places close midday and only reopen in the afternoon.

Entrance is free. You can walk around and take the 100 or so steps to go to the top of the tower. From there you have a good view of the area around Beja. In the olden days they would have seen an enemy come...More

It will not take long to walk round this castle but the views are magnificent. There are a huge number of steps to the top. Free entry.

You can climb the tower to get wonderful views of the town and surrounding countryside. You can walk around the ramparts which are well conserved. Nothing remains within the castle itself but it is still worth a visit. Entry is free of charge

So cool and didn't kill me getting to the top. What a view! Love that we decided to stay in this little town for a pampering evening.

Probably the most must do in Beja, well worth visiting but not for the infirm or feint hearted. Great views , steep steps and no guard rails around the battlements. Very picturesque.
