This is a monument that remembers those who fell to the first gas attack of WWI. Despite the knowledge of the horror of that day, we have yet to learn the lesson, it seems. 100 years later, and some still use gas attacks.

Worth going to see this monument. The monument is out of the way, but captures the atrocity of gas warfare tactics.

The memorial is dramatic in its design. However, very little information is available about the gas attack on the site. With the battle now over a century ago and few remaining visitors who met anyone involved in the battle. It is likely it will become...More

This memorial is a lovely structure. Very moving in its tone and style. We made a very brief stop here purely to take a quick photo and admire the structure and I'm glad I did. Free parking right next to it

Our family (children ages 10 and 12) stopped here on a tour around near-by cemeteries and monuments. This was a worthwhile stop, as it added to the story of the Battles of Ypres. The monument was somewhat difficult to find on our own using the...More

As you look up at the towering monument of the Brooding Soldier, you can't help be feel overwhelmed by the sacrifices made here. Approximately 2000 Canadian soldiers perished here while fighting back an enemy gas attack in 1915. This is an impressive monument to the...More
