This beautiful memorial commemorates the 18,000 Canadians who held fast during the first German gas attack in 1915, of which 2000 died and countless others had long lasting effects. It's hard to believe the statue is almost 100 years old! The statue is in a...More

This memorial is stunning. Simple, yet heart wrenching remembrance of the soldiers who fell during the 2nd Battle of Ypres in 1915 (and the first use of large scale gas warfare in the First World War)

We totally admired this statue referencing those Canadian soldiers who fought nearby. It is truly an awesome sight. The surrounding grounds are lovely and well kept. It is a place of contemplation and relaxation.

The "Brooding soldier" memorial is remarkable - very different from any other memorial in France or Belgium.

A fantastic memorial that stands out above the trees around it. The trees signify the clouds of gas. This was near the place where gas was first used on the French. You must visit this and stand for a while and think.

A truly beautiful little space dedicated to the men and women of Canada who fought in the region of Ieper during WWI. My family and I live nearby and make a point to visit EVERY Remembrance Day.
