We walked from one point of Bruges to the other side and found this beautiful gated bridge. I'm not sure if you are able to go inside. Very it is a very interesting structure.

Visited Bruges for one day only during my Xmas Markets trip, and I was entering the town through that gate. Looks really good at night with the light on.

Definitely worth the visit, especially for people who come from non-european countries and therefore, aren't used to this kind of construction. Beautiful and very well mantained.

Another of the historic entrance gates to the city. Obviously not near the tourist centre, but if you are having a walk on the outskirts of Bruges, worth a stop and a look. I'm not sure if you are able to go inside. Very impressive structure.

The Smedenpoort was about a 10-15 minute walk from our hotel and it was a lovely stroll to work off a big dinner. The Smedenpoort is one of the many Medieval town gates in Bruges. There are beautiful views on the river on both sides. The river has a nice paved paths that you can continue your walk in both... More

All of the old gates in Bruges are interesting. The gate has a one lane street passing through it so one must wait for the light. Pedestrians pass freely on either side. Well maintained/restored.

This is one of many gates that you go through to enter the town. I think they are great and adds some charm to the town. There are varies ones around the town and all have a different design. Worth a look as we were walking past them anyway, but certainly not something to go out for way for.

We enjoyed walking towards the Smedenpoort, especially since along the river going through this gate, in fact the second Blacksmith's Gate, dating from 1367, were numerous trees, plants, swans and ducks. A bit further there was even a gorgeous park! Anyway there is a bronze skull above the left passage, a reminder of Francois Vander Straeten's execution, who wanted the... More

One of the medieval town gates, Smedenpoort is a short detour when walking between the train station and the Markt. Yes, there is not much to see, but the gate is plain yet charming, and it is deserves the quick detour.
