Went specifically to see the Hieronymus Bosch triptich and was not disappointed. A lot smaller than you would think but amazing detail. Other great works are on show

Fascinating insight into the early painters of the region. I had not previously been aware of the area's artistic heritage. Most interesting were the under-drawings of several paintings which have been revealed through infra-red light inspection. This work has been going on at the museum...More

The temporary exhibition of Peter Pourbus and his contempory painters is reall an hidden gem. The school of Peter Pourbus can compete with the Flemish Primitives of acentury earlier.

The 'primitives', actually named after 'primus' Latin for first is a fabulous museum. What is most striking is the extraordinary quality of the painted faces where one felt that one could recognise that individual if one bumped into them later. We also saw what was...More

Groeningenmuseum is situated in a lovely location of Bruges, just next to Arentshof park. It nicely surprised me, that the ticket is valid also for Arentshuis Museum and it costs only 6 Euro. The museum mostly has paintings from Flemish painters somehow connected with Brugge....More

Far more interesting than we had envisaged it would be. We went mainly because it was the main art museum in Bruges, but the early Flemish Art was great to view. Always good to learn something new.

I believe you are referring to The Madonna with Canon van der Paele by Jan Van Eyck. Although it's the madonna seated on the throne, not a man.
