The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

It gets very cramped

You have to wait until people leave for you to enter, but worth the wait. It does get a bit cramped when you get to the top but I enjoyed it.

This is a very ineresting tower with a lot of history. There are levels where you can stop and have a rest if need be. As you get further up it does narrow. The views are great from the top and you see the bells and the mechanisms.

Do yourself a favor and climb the tower especially on a clear, sunny day. What a beautiful city. We walked everywhere and were richly rewarded with surprising views.

I went to Bruges last year and came back this year again to see Arthure's exhibition, it is amazing collection of modern sculpture and paintings presented every year. I had a fabulous time talking with the artist, I thanked him for keeping it free access and allow everyone to dream. A must see in the city.

Located on the main square of the old part of the city this tower offers a stunning view. Allot of small stairs are required to be climbed so be careful. This building closes earlier than the other churches so be on time.

Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs if you want the views but it's worth it! There are stopping points on the way up with a small amount of information at each to give you a rest. Vertigo sufferers would not enjoy the narrowness or windiness of the staircase and on a busy day you would have to wait... More

Climbed 366 steps to the top after about a half hour wait. Was about 3pm when we went so was relatively busy. It was tiring but we knew what we were in for so the climb didn't bother us so much! Not for the faint hearted and definitely not a good idea if you're claustrophobic, stairs get super narrow towards... More
