You're very unlikely to see a beguin walking around, and as other reviewers have said you might not get into the chapel either.
The point of this isn't really to see the beguinage, it's more to walk through the park and confluence of canals and bridges around it. In Winter it's misty and atmospheric, in Summer it's warm, still lawns. We'd recommend doing this in early evening, just walk around it or sit for a while, watch the ducks and swans on the canal, and then go back around to Katelijnstraat and beyond for dinner.

It is amazing to visit this enclosed community in the middle of the town. Founded in 1245 for Catholic lay women (the beguines) it is still a Monastery with a church and little houses set around a central green with old trees. Visitors are asked to be quiet and this adds to the reverent atmosphere. There is a little shop with cards and gifts reflecting the Christian ethos of the place. Loved it!!

It was astonishing to escape the hustle and bustle, and tourist horse drawn carriages by crossing a bridge over the canal and entering the gates of the Beguinage. Here is an oasis of calm in the midst of the city. Founded in 1245, the Beguinage was a home for devout women who created a religious community without actually taking holy orders. The central courtyard is striking with its tall windswept trees and flowers. The gates are locked in the evening, so any visits must be completed by 18.30. The small chapel was also open when we visited on a Saturday and had information leaflets in multiple languages.

Begijnhof is a 13th-century convent situated just west of the canal at the northern end of Minnewater. This peaceful compound was constructed and used for centuries as for women associated with the church to live. These days, it is still a place of residence by the sisters of the Order fo Saint Benedict and single Bruges Women to this day. What you can expect to see here is similar but vastly larger version of white Almshouses (Godhuis) scattered around the city and can be visited everyday from 6.30am to 6.30pm.
There are two entrances one on the south end of the complex and the other next to Wijngaardplein. Just cross the small bridge at either spot and you can walk into Begijnhof. There is relative information about this World Heritage attraction at the northern entrance.
Once you are within the main grounds, you will find mostly uniform residences with white facades. There is a large garden with tall mature trees in centre. In April when the daffodils are in bloom, the garden is a delightful to see. During autumn when the trees are starting to drop their leaves it is also nice. You will find a 13th-century church here as well. It is worth a few minutes to enjoy as part of your visit to Begijnhof.

Still as beautiful as ever. An absolute great photo op area, it is particularly beautiful when all the bulb flowers such as daffodils are in bloom. Don't miss the swans. We visited a little later in the AM than last visit and it was filling with tourists. Last time we felt like we had the place all to ourselves. Near Minnewater park note the photo ops here too. You will see many tour groups coming over the bridge from the park, the closer you get to the Beginhof. Consider its original purpose and that just adds to its air of beauty as a sanctuary for women. Go into the small museum areas which are interesting. Cobblestone streets but be careful of the horse carriages and swan poop. Note the discerning gaze of the nun in the window as you go towards the bridge (reminded my wife of her high and grammar school teachers watching them with a jaundiced eye), Go early on a cool foggy morning and feel its history flow by you and enter a time that has passed.

A place where you can breathe history, see the small buildings where the beguines lived. This is an oasis of peace, visitors must be silent and its well respected. In spring the field is full with yellow flowers.. a beautiful view. The church is still used and also worth a visit.

Tranquil, serene, peaceful, relaxing… such are the adjectives that are unavoidable when describing this place. The compound is ringed by interesting historic, old buildings with majestic trees throughout. Few tourists seem to realize that the Beguinage is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Just a lovely nice place to stroll around but it can be busy with tourists!
The 'Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde' with its white-coloured house fronts and tranquil convent garden was founded in 1245. This little piece of world heritage was once the home of the beguines, emancipated women who nevertheless led a pious and celibate life. Today the beguinage is inhabited by nuns of the Order of St. Benedict and several Bruges women who have decided to remain unmarried.
We visited bruges several times (pre-covid).

While Bruges is an all-time tourist favorite, hordes of visitors have not diminished the spiritual purity of Begijnhof. The cluster of religious housing and lush, pleasant garden shows as if time never passes in this serene corner. Visitors can experience the mental sublimation for sure.

Very nice and unique place. You can really imagine how that women lived. A short walk to arrive here from the city center. There is a good spot to take a picture in front of the bridge with swans and ducks.
