Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely bridge crossing Dijver Canal where Wollestraat and Eekhoustraat streets come together in the Historic Centre of Bruges. You can look in all directions and see beauty from here. There is a 18th-century monument to Saint Joannes Nepomucenus on the bridge itself. If you look down Wollestraat, you will see the iconic Belfort tower in the skyline and know that Grote Markt awaits you in that direction.
A look down Dijver Canal in both directions is quite impressive from this location as well. The medieval buildings on the west side of the canal are architecturally stunning while people walk the other side watching birds and ducks play in the canal as well as the occasional boat with passengers passing by. It is ideal location in Bruges and one where you can take many beautiful and memorable photographs.

This is the attractive bridge crossing over Dijver connecting Wollestraat and Eekhoustraat on the other side of the canal.
Here you will find a nice monument of Saint Johannes van Nepomuk on the bridge and wonderful views up and down Dijver. You will likely see visitors taking boat trips up the canal going under this bridge.
On the east side of the canal you'll find Rozenhoedkaai, one of the most photogenic locations in Bruges. Lots of good spots to take pictures of the beautiful canal side buildings at and around Nepomucenusbrug.

One of the biggest bridges in the old city, located near the main (Markt) square. Very nice architectural style and level of details. Can be quite crowded.

Another great area of Bruges and again with so much of the town you seem to turn a corner and it opens up to a picturesque view.

It is close to some of the most picturesque areas of Bruges, so it does get very busy around here with tourists. But do take the trouble to have a closer look, especially early evening in the lighter months when the day trippers have gone home. Magical with all the lights late at night.

Walking towards the Nepomucene Bridge (between Wollestraat and Eeckhoutstraat) during a lovely stroll along the Dijver we could only see the back of the statue adorning its western parapet. Closer by we recognised the typical features of the Bohemian saint John of Nepomuk (or John Nepomucene), protector of bridges - priestly attire, five-starred halo and large cross - because we remembered seeing a very similar statue on Charles Bridge in Prague (Czech Republic), from where the saint is said to have been thrown in the Vlatva River by King Wenceslaus IV.
The statue in Bruges was designed by local artist Pieter Pepers sr (1730-1785) and dates from 1767. We didn’t find the bridge very remarkable but it offered lovely views.

Bridge over a water way with a statue and fantastic scenery wherever you look. Bruges is one beautiful city and this particular bridge is very picturesque.

Johannes was born in Bohemia in the 14th century. There was a conflict between the king and Joannes. The king arrested him, tortured him and in the night threw him in the river and he drowned. All of a sudden Johannes' body toppled and was surrounded by 5 stars over his head, exactly as described in this statue in Bruges.
The next day, lots of people came to the river and the king was ignored.
Now I have no idea how this legend came into Bruges, but still it is part of our folklore.
Every day, numerous tourists take his picture, some even putting their arm around his shoulders. He is still popular, even though most tourists don't know the legend of Joannes. Quite worthwhile to see it!
