The citadel is located in Dinant Belgium on the upper river Meuse, a location which has been significant in European wars for over five centuries. The citadel is located on a high point above the river and has been a major defensive fortification through world war II but now has been made a relic by modern warfare. However Dinant and... More

The citadel has lived through the different periods of the city of Namur and everythgin is nicely explained in the museum. There is also a guided visit to the tunnels used as defense and storage which will give you some more insights. The view from the top is spectacular.

The citadel provides some fantastic views. The fortress looks impressive from below, and from higher up there are plenty of great scenes over Namur and the valleys of the Sambre and the Meuse. At the bottom there is a medieval bridge to Jambes. From a bridge between Namur and Jambes one gets another excellent view at the citadel. There is... More

I've visited this old citadel with my family and it has worth the effort for climbing some stairs (we came without a car). The views of the Namur city are amazing and the place it's packed with history. Namur itself is a lovely small old charm city and I strongly recommend for a one day visit from Brussels, as we... Arrived at 10.00 Hrs and lots of free parking opposite the Terra Nova complex or the perfumery workshop. 11 Euros for the Adult Pass gives a lot in return. The exhibition in the complex can be interrupted and picked up again after the visit to the underground of the fortress. The train left at 10.30 and took about 30 minutes... More

It was fun to find the way to the Citadelle. Thanks to our endeavors, we walked in underground hallway that eventually led to the inside of this Citadel. That certainly was fun. We had a guide that was very knowledgeable. He showed us everything, explaining about Medieval techniques of war, as well as the orchards. I had no idea that... More

Since it was rainy and the complex is huge, we were not exactly sure what to do around here without having booked a guided tour. The scenery is nice and the view over Namur and its river is really spectacular. However, we were mostly surprised by the visitors centre which hosts a small and fairly new museum. The museum was...
