Always nice to sit here and watch the world go by. Can be very busy at times and hard to find a table outside, specially when you are more people.

The Grand Place is a perfect setting to enjoy supper in one of the many restaurants that line the square. The evening light combined with the sound of the fountains created a lovely ambience. The cobbles were a pain for my wheelchair but worth it...More

The main square in Mons is the place that everything goes off from. Just stand in the middle and take panoramic photographs (you won’t be alone). Don’t forget to rub the monkey’s head with your left hand for good luck. The first clash of the...More

One of the grander old 'places' in Belgium (certainly for a relatively small town) surrounded by cafes, restaurants and some impressive buildings. But if you catch it on the Saturday of the town's traditional feast day (from the 1300s apparently!) the Fete Doudou - Ducasse...More

The Grand Place is a vibrant historical place with the Gothic Town Hall as the centre. There are loads of cafes to sit and watch the square live. A very clean and well ordered place that should be on anyone's agenda when visiting Belgium.

All of the great Flemish towns seem to have these wonderful central public spaces and this is one of the best; with it's large sloping space almost devoid of cars, but full of cafes (and students!). There's a range of interesting building all around and...More

I concur with the previous poster, stay in the lighted areas that are well trafficked. Avoid the "back streets"--especially at night.
