Lovely museum

We went for the Van Gogh exposition. Interesting to see this period of his life...It's a well designed museum, right in the heart of the city of Mons.

We arrived at BAM this morning 10AM sharp. Lights off, gate closed. Called the reception - the museum turns out only to be open when a temporary exhibition is hosted. This information is nowhere to be found online. Also I find it disappointing the temporary exhibitions are not planned continuously while this city is the European cultural capital in 2015.

Disappointing. Mainly exhibitions to show modern approach to the use of art for people with psychological problems. Interesting, but hardly a Musee des Beaux Arts.

Beautiful special exhibits on display, excellent curation of local art, knowledge guides available, great rooftop terrace. Close to most things worth seeing in Mons, don't miss.

Recently refurbished. I went to see the WW1 exhibition...it was ok but not brilliant! Walked around the gallery and I left feeling rather disappointed at the collection. Our guide was not very good at all

"Van Gogh in the Borinage; The Birth of an Artist" provided more education about this passionate being than I gained in all of art college and graduate school. I will be able to teach about this man and his art with greater authority and confidence as a result of knowing more about his heart for the coal miners of Mons.

I like the overall exhibilition and how the paints were organized, and the lights. I enjoyed it. There is free guide but we could not take it because the scheadule did not work well with ours

If you think Van Gogh and you think sunflowers and bright colours, this exhibition will shock. It focusses on his youth and his early years working as a pastor in the mining area near Mons (before moving to France) and starts with letters written to his brother Theo, early drawings where he didn't master the art yet, dark paintings and... Mons, in Belgium, is a lovely little town – and one of the jewels in its beautiful crown is the Musée des Beaux-Arts, just off the main square. Right now, and running through to 17 May (so hurry!) is a wonderful exhibition of paintings, drawings and letters by Vincent Van Gogh. He lived and worked in the Mons area (the... More

Part of visit to Mons 2015 we visit the Van Gogh exhibition, it was little disappointed more about his writing and less about his painting. All in 3.5 rooms in very nice building. There are some guided tours but 3 are in French one in Flemish NON in English so even that it's European Capital of Culture and they want... More
