Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not accurate but it is a Parliament building with the EU flag flying from. Something to remember should the UK leave

Reviewers are mistakenly writing about the European Parliament here. The heading for this is the Brussels Parliament Building, Rue du Lombard 69, Brussels 1000. It's important to review the correct site! Write about the European Parliament elsewhere. The Brussels Parliament Building is an old one. It is a neoclassical building, it is located on Rue de Lombardstraat and houses the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region. Its history goes back to the 17th century. In 1995 it passed down from Federal Belgian control to local Brussels ownership, when it was also expanded and renovated to accommodate Regional government needs. It has been tastefully renovated with a number or art works and other works. Worth a look in if you happen to be in the vicinity. By any means also visit the European Parliament which is located at Rue d'Arlon 62, 1000 Bruxelles.

I, with my fellow Brits joined this club back in 1973.

They promised us VIP treatment whereas to compete with the rest of the worlds import duty rates, we would together, create a free trade zone where if we all trade together, there would be 0% duty. It worked fantastic at the start!

However, as years went by, the rest of the world's duty rates plummeted as it seems they caught on to our little idea.

After highlighting this to the manager, Mr Junker, our membership fee went up to ÂŁ350 Million per week! He said, dont worry it's not REALLY ÂŁ350m a week, thats gross.

I said, what's gross then? How is it calculated.
He said "I'll give you some back, not all of it mind, but some, and I'll let you know next year".

I was disgusted the following year to learn that only some of our funds have come back to us, whilst we held a meeting to suggest all his friends from around Europe wanted to sack our own fisherman and use our seas, as British Cod & Chips were THE best after all.

Stupidly, I agreed.

I then used the suggestion box in reception to enquire about our farmers. We're selling a lot of produce to Europe so wondered if it could be ok to have some of that ÂŁ350m a week back to our country folk, you know, just to help them out a bit before they too follow the tragic destiny of our fisherman. Surprisingly, Mr Junker agreed but when I worked it out, the offer sounded quite large at first which was ÂŁ2.5 Billion a year. It's not bad, but after all I am putting in ÂŁ20 Billion a year myself, why can't I just keep that and fund what I like when I like? I got no reply.

I was moaning at breakfast to another resident, also from Great Britain. He too has the same experience yet, over hearing our conversation, the american guy next to us, piped up and started getting all aggressive! I couldn't believe it!
He said "you'll be nothing, you'll be a laughing stock disaster if you leave this place. You'd never survive on your own, you must be mental even considering leaving this place, it's fantastic can't you see?" - Very strange. We just looked at each other and slowly walked back to our table with our heads down. Not entirely sure what it had to do with him, and why on earth he was putting us down so much! He seemed really scared and almost nervous. Weird.

During my stay, I must have complained about 72 times asking for change. Not one of my suggestions or opposes were taken on board, as ever other member kept jumping down my throat out voting me saying "It's not all about you ya know!".

I was starting to feel very down, and self loathing. I felt like I was stuck, and to be honest lacked a bit of confidence that I was actually able to ever join another club or do this on my own....

I realised, one morning that I wasn't alone. There were more of us in this club than I ever imagined, and only through talking about the problems, did I realise we'd all been.... well, taken for granted, almost mentally abused into thinking we were worthless. I was so glad to find others as hope and positive thoughts ran through my veins just like back in 1973.

One of the other ladies said to us, so let's get this straight.
We pay ÂŁ350m a week to belong to this club, we don't get back nowhere near what we put in, we give up our waters so they can catch our fish and sell it back to us, they tell us we need them because they give us back some of our OWN money to the farmers AND, we spend ÂŁ85 billion more in their member shops than they do ours?!

I felt so silly. We laughed, as we handed in our notice to leave.

I'd never every recommend this club to anyone else. 0/5 if I could.

Was there and it showed how Brussels works within its rules and roles of what is to be done. They are hard work decisions made here.

Wow! Spent over two hours learning about modern European history in a very engaging way. Getting an understanding of how GB led the way in the 1950s to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the growth of the EU.
Not a ra ra for the EU but a totally immersive experience for the thinking person.
Really opened my eyes to the extent, breadth and reach of everything that is going on across the and within the EU nation states.

Modern, dreary, fume-pickled. Head for Grande Place for a Beer - Petit Salon for a Beer; the big square for a Beer and to see the sculpture of a little boy peeing - which you can more happily view probably in your own home from your baby son or grandson. Head instead for Tervuren; lovely lake, trees, forest, African museum and many shops. Far more worthwhile. Anything, but the Parliament. Westminster is gothic magic and history - Bxl Parliament is chicken crossing the road and getting run over - combined with an airport security search and walking through a car-welcome-only zone. Don't bother.
