A fun activity if you enjoy art is to try the Visit Brussels sponsored 'Comic Strip Walk' around the city centre. This trail passes by 40 different buildings featuring comic strip murals that are enjoyable to find and interesting to see. Here you can find Tin Tin, Asterix, Bob & Bobette, Lucky Luke Monsieur Jean, Le Scorpion and many more.
You can buy a Comic Strip mini-Map (€1) at the Brussels TI centres including the one directly on Grand Place. The maps are pocket size, easy to carry and are very useful if you want to know exactly where the murals are located.
Overall, we thought this was a great idea for the city of Brussels. The Comic Strip Walk is something most visitors should be able to enjoy as either an aside to other intended sightseeing in the city centre or as a featured activity of trying to locate, visit and photograph as many of the murals as is possible.

We tried to do as much of the walk as we could, but just felt sad that some of the most beautiful buildings in the city were "defaced" by the paintings. There is so much history in the architecture and the modern-day comic strips just didn't fit the bigger picture. The streets were also quite on the dirty side and there were some loiterers and beggars, which did not make for a pleasant walk. All and all we were disappointed.

Murals on building walls all over the city. Some are near the Midi Trans station. Interesting art and concept. If you are walking, you will pass one sooner or later.

The Comic Strip Walk is a great occasion to walk within the downtown of Brussels and enjoy a large variety of pieces of art. It also allows one to discover neighbourhoods that one would not enter otherwise, and offers thus nice opportunities in finding nice pubs, great restaurants, small parcs, and so on.
The main goal of the walk is to admire and enjoy unique and giant comic strip scenes spread all around the city (reminder: comic strips are famous in Belgium). The official website dedicated to Brussels offers a predefined 90-minutes walk within the city center (with 15 stops), and also provides a more complete list of comic strip frescoes with 60 potential stops. This better allows for the organization of his/her own walk according to the available time and the part of the city one wants to discover. On top of that, one can easily find more information on each mural fresco online.
There is a map available for sale at the tourist information, but we organized our own two walks from the information on the website provided above. In total, we spent 3 hours outside and observed about 20 frescoes. It is however easy to even spend a full day, especially if the goal is to find all of them.

As much as you have time to look after all the 60 mural paintings.
Belgium produced lot of comic artists.
The country's love to comic went to another level by painting the characters with the intention to embellish empty walls in the city, while paying tribute to famous Belgian comic artists.
The project starts in 1991 with 10 murals, now the comic strip walk includes more than 60 paintings covering Brussels 19 streets.
Among those mural paintings are the smurfs, adventures of Tintin, Ric Hochet, Neron....

There are dozens of building-sized comic strip panels to be found around the lower town. Get a list and a map from the tourist office in Grand Place and see how many you can find. You can explore less-visited neighbourhoods as you search for these bright artworks. You can easily spend half a day in your search.

The comic strip murals are fantastic. And I heartily recommend doing the walk. First the variety of the artistic murals is great. You can stop and looking at the details for quite a while if you're into that. Secondly the walk takes you through parts of Brussels that normal tourists don't go. So you truly experience something different.

This is a fun way to explore the city. A map is a must. Didn’t find any online map, but managed to find an old fashioned foldable one.

Within Brussels city there is 55 different comic murals and even outside the main city there is also some comic murals. How many where you able to find? After WW2 Belgium developed a comic publishing industry. As an example back in 1946 there was a weekly Tintin magazine that was originally for Belgium readership only but also gained a strong reader base in France and from there other parts of the world. The Tintin weekly magazine hasn't been published for many years. Brussels has an annual Comic Strip festival which usually has September dates. So raise your eyes and enjoy. There is a mini-map of the comic strip itinerary available from visit.brussels tourist information centres for 1 Euro.
