This historic building in the centre of town is really one of the places to visit when you are in Mechelen. You can even go up to the tower for a great view over the old town. There is a fee to pay to go up to tower.

Sometimes if you've seen one cathedral you've seen them all. This is not one of those times. The outside is stunning and the tower soars into the sky like the Empire State Building. During the day or at night it is an amazing construct to behold. The inside is still a functioning church, so be careful where you wander (take... More

It is very beautiful historic building, there is entrance fee to go up to the tower. The entire city center is surrounded with old style buildings.

St Rumbold Cathedral is a stunning Cathedral to visit and what better to way to explore the building is to take a few steps up into the clouds. A count of 538 steps until you reach the top, those these are broken into various stops. Try to be up whilst the bells are being run by the Carillon ringer or... More

We were recommended to climb the tower but it was not a clear day. Nevertheless we had a look at the church on the inside. If you have the time a visit to the cathedral's museum is a worthwhile experience. Note the stained glass window with King Boudewijn and queen Fabiola (near the main entrance to the left when you... From the Sint Rombouts tower you can get an incredible view at the southern side till Brussels and the Northern side as far as Antwerp. The more than 500 steps to the top are not only worth it for the view but also for the magnificent clocks and carillon. And if you did not know. ..when the spire, that was... More

Most church towers offer more or less the same: A nice view over the environment, clocks and the mechanism behind it, and some information and items related to the church's history. Essentially that's what you get here too, but I think one item stood out as unique to this place, namely the big treadmill that was used until 1930 to... More

We were lucky to have great weather so we had a great view on top of the Cathedral. Very romantic activity, but also very good for the whole family

Visit the Cathedral and especially its tower. 538 steps to the top of the tower. Luckily there are some stops on the way: the carillon, the huge bells, information boards that explain what the different floors in the tower were used for, until you reach the top with a glass skywalk that lets you admire Mechelen and its surroundings. With... More

Recently enjoyed a trip up the Bell Tower with my brother and dad. We hadn't pre booked anything so we were lucky the ticket desk opened when we were visiting the church (doesn't open till 1pm). We really enjoyed the climb and each level has something interesting to see / discover. There are good informative signs and we were lucky... More
