Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum is not difficult to find. But somehow the entrance is easy to miss. It displays ancient musical instrument on the first floor. I could not appreciate these gems as there was no English explanation. The basement has interesting showcase on bell making.

Unexpected finding while walking around. Excellent exposition for a very fair fee, they have got a collection of nicely restored musical instruments from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era.
The coolest thing is that they have got recordings showing how most of the instruments sound like in the museum's website (adapted to smartphone, so no need to download an app), as well as their historical background. There is also a cabinet showing how 3D replicas are designed, printed and tested.
The building itself is worth visiting too!

A hidden place that is not so famous but by coincidence i ended up here and tought to go inside and have a look. Small entrance fee of 5 euro and a possibilty of using your smartphone to listen to most instruments. Simple thing but really helpfull to get an idea how most old instruments sounded that time. They have a great collection and trough the internet you also get more information. The WIFI is free so dont worry, easy and simple. In the basement there's more...you can also see how they made the big clocks for the churches, cathedrals,... And theres a small reconstruction of a music instruments factory. Beautiful and worth a visit, closed on tuesday and wednesday.

The Vleeshuis is, despite its name, a very interesting museum of musical instruments. Lots of things to see and hear, good for kids.

The visit to the museum of musical instruments is really worth while. Depending on interest you spent 1,5 hrs strolling between an interesting collection. An app allows you to hear the individual sound of each instrument. In the lower area you find reconstructed workshops for tower bells and brass instruments. When in historical center of Antwerp, do not hesitate!

We arrived at this beautiful building and thought let's give it a go. Over 65 ticket price 3 euros each. As we start the tour the lady says if you want to make it more interesting log on to the museum website and hear the sounds of the instruments. That makes all the difference, from a dry 'looking at musical exhibits' to a really interesting fun experience.
The signs to the basement indicate toilets and .......? Well downstairs is fantastic with an old Belgian barrel organ and dancing facilities! Add to it how to cast bells and an instrument maker frozen in time transferred to the museum you have a really interesting experience. Would recommend.

This place is not exactly crowded with visitors - it is a pity because it has great atmosphere. The old butchers' guild hall houses a museum of musical instruments, showing the evolution of keyboards, lutes and winds across the centuries until the early 20th. The basement shows two authentic old workshops, one for bells and one for brass instruments, and those well-worn tools have a nice aura around them. So if you like classical music and workshops you may feel very inspired by a visit. Texts are seemingly only in Dutch though.

If you are interested in musical period instruments and music mss don't miss this collection housed in a 1504 meat hall where the city butchers had their stalls and where even the exterior had a streaky bacon look. Here is the organ Saint Seans played on in Paris, later rebuilt in Antwerp, a glasharp made from glass goblets, the 1751 municipal clarion with 6 bells, the cryter or pocket violin carried by the dancing master, and the great Storm Bell used in emergencies together with numerous wind and string instruments and much more. There are Mss of early music, including opera, and one sheet which was used as an envelope by the famous Antwerp printers, Plantin Moretus (their museum another must). Downstairs you will find recreated a metal workshop for making wind and brass instruments, some in the process of production, and another work place showing how bells were made and cast. The modest entrance fee gives a morning of sheer pleasure. We needed 2 hours and still did not absorb everything but much will depend on your level of interest.

This is an interesting building both inside and out, the exterior built in red and white resembling a side of bacon. The museum is dedicated to a historic collection of music and dance exhibits which is rather more interesting that it might sound.
