No guides, hard to understand information without proper labeling for captions so it’s guess work to find out what you’re even looking at. Far too small for its price, as well as quite boring and uninteresting exhibits. The information told to you is closer to that of a Wikipedia article listing the obvious and not some greater, more compelling narrative that not just “isn’t Rotterdam great?” Serving closer to a tourism ad for the city that you pay to enter. I am heavily disappointed, especially after Rotterdammers have hyped up the museum as their pride and joy:but that’s what it is; a thing that’s exists so you can have something to feel prideful about with any actual care of what it is.

If you want to see some history on the Dutch marines, you should visit this museum. No bloody scenes but just very interesting stuff about those marines. Drums and pipes, military gear and other stuff.
It gives you a feeling of how a day in the field was (even recent history of Afghanistan missions) but also the force and trouble they had. Battles with the British, the Second World War (a hard time for Rotterdam), the colonial times of the Indies and more recent missions.
For the kids (sorry only Dutch so far) a whole floor on what those marines do extra, e.g. tracking & finding 😎

I like seeing museums about the marines and army stuff, however I was disappointed as every single information was written only in Dutch, so all I could do was looking at the pictures and the different uniforms and firearms

The Mariniersmuseim is located in one building which is part of a row of heritage buildings next to the "Witte Huis". This buidings, including the Witte Huis were spared miraculously with the fighting close by on the Willemsbrug and the subsequent devastating bombing in May 1940. Curiously, these row of buildings were dismantled and built up again with loving care in the '90's of last century to make possible the construction of the main railway tunnel under the river Meuse. The museum consists of three floors. Maybe we were at the wrong time there, because the third floor was closed for refurbishing. Adding to this is the fact that the first floor is given over to a tracking game for children. That left the second floor for inspection. Half of this floor was dedicated to the Uruzgan (Afganistan) mission; the other half was dedicated to the history of the "Corps Mariniers" and their historical and continuing connection with Rotterdam, easily the most interesting part of the exhibition. But was the museum exciting? No. I would say even a bit sterile. Entry to the museum for a fee. Free entrance with the annual Dutch museum pass.

This museum has a very nice setup with elevators taking you to various level. That take you back in time to the Netherlands was in. You can see the various weapons and Uniforms on this play. I am not much of history lover but it was nice.

I have had quite a boring visit at Mariniers Museum. First of all, I must say that the 3rd floor was closed for renovation when I was there, so I could only visit floors 1 and 2. Hence, it may be a bit more interesting after they finish the renovations.
Anyway, the 1st floor is a kind of battlefield simulator for children and the 2nd floor contains information about the Dutch Marines. The exhibits are rather few and uninteresting and the information is scarce and badly organized, as well. There were some interesting facts and overall I have learned a few interesting facts, but that was about it. Also, no information in English on the first floor and little information in English on the second floor.

Nice little museum about the oldest (invented by Michiel de Ruyter) Marine Corps in the world. The museum is no that large but offers a good overview of the Dutch RMC throughout its history.

Nice museum about the history of the Dutch marine corps. The Dutch marinecorps was the first marinecorps in the world and this museum gives a good picture of the history of them from the 17th century untill today. Special sections are contributed to the marines that defended the city of Rotterdam against the Nazi forces in may 1940. Also this museum is well suited for small children. Nice displays for them and the excibition is interactive enough to make it a good place to visit for them.

Well prepared, informative and friendly staff. Received a whole floor of personal attention (during weekday, early) to start, and a 15 minute conversation to finish. Feedback was most welcome. Exhibits have original artifacts, histories, multi-media, and best of all - personal stories over the Marine's history. One of the best museum experiences I've had. Only down side was the video's audio was in Dutch. Minimal impact to overall experience.

This is a compact museum with affecting displays. Got there 25 minutes before closing -- no worries ! The lead docent, Johannes, personally gave me a terrific experience of all the floors. Great uniforms, weapons ,history, etc.
The hallmark of the tour was a 35 " model of a 18th century Dutch, 3 masted sailing ship -- better than any example in the city's vaunted Maritime Museum . It was a marvel of craftsmanship and detail -- great for kids of ALL ages. I offered " top dollar " to buy it !! No luck.
