We visited Het Nieuwe Instituut on a blustery day. It was the perfect escape from the dreary weather. There were a number of interesting exhibits and projects for kids to watch and participate in. The gift shop is heavy on books, but not a lot of other gifts, etc.

The ground floor expo about surfaces is an epic fail in my eyes. The booklet given out is a mess of pseudo arty pseudo haikus with no relevance discernible to the objects on display. The expo about screen savers is actually interesting. Let down by technology. There was no audio guide in English despite several attempts to find one in... More

We visited with a welcome card and it was €15 for two, including the sonneveld house. We enjoyed the transylvania archives and exhibition of 90s screensavers. Cafe was nice. Sonneveld house amazing.

Great museum with a selection of exhibitions. One of the current exhibitions is about screen savers which was great and a reminder of the late 90s/early 2000s. As part of your admission you can see a retro architects house, certainly a great representation of the modernism. Good cafe serving a range of options and I was able to get a... More

This contemporary museum is a place to visit for artists or designers alike while in Rotterdam. It has different levels to explore and has a different range of work with an array of media. Their contemporary gallery space has the best survey of Dutch artwork and really showcases what is being discussed in the art world within Europe and Netherlands.

Interesting museum for new ideas. Some seems strange ,but why not. There is enough space for new ideas.

Visited during the temporary exhibition on fashion (on for a few months more, with different sub-themes on this topic per month). The displays are very effective - including good infographics on how much wastage of materials there is. The staff throughout were friendly, approachable and informative. My 5 star award goes to the lady on the stand who persuaded me... More

The building looks fabulous, but there is very little to actually see there. When I was there they had an exhibition on the history of glass, and a weird artistic feature about machines taking over the world. The main reason I went to the Nieuwe Instituut was because entrance to the Art Deco Sonneveld House was included, and that was... More

There were three exhibitions on when I visited. All were of a poor standard. The place was not engaging and generally kind of flat. The building itself is quite lovely and had a really delicious (expensive) coffee out on the veranda. Go Kunstahal or Boijmans instead.
