About
The Kunsthal Rotterdam is one of the leading cultural institutions in the Netherlands. With over twenty exhibitions a year, the Kunsthal offers a programme that is dynamic and always surprising. The Kunsthal is continuously transforming, and with its regularly changing exhibitions able to offer crossovers between various art disciplines. From modern masters and contemporary art to forgotten cultures, photography, fashion and design. The Kunsthal's exhibition programme gives it its national scope and international allure. In its iconic building designed by Rem Koolhaas, the Kunsthal stands for three core values: art, culture and society. The Kunsthal is not a museum, nor does it wish to be. Not having its own collection gives the Kunsthal absolute freedom, and making optimum use of that freedom is where its strength lies. With a small team, a wide range of exhibitions and activities are realised with a high turnover rate for a diverse audience. This is what makes the Kunsthal different from other institutions in the museum sector.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Disappointing exhibition combined with grumpy personnel without any interest whatsoever in the museum or its visitors. Part of the museum was not accessible due to a private event. This was not indicated on the museum website when booking the tickets. Fortunately our tickets were for free with the Museumjaarkaart. Had we paid $16.50 pp it would have felt like a ripoff. Too bad.

I went to the Kunsthal today with high expectations, but sadly I left very disappointed and €16.50 poorer. The artistic standard of work displayed in most of the rooms was similar to that of a primary school kid, the only exception being that on women and art, which was ok but clearly woke. What has happened to Dutch art - nowadays it seems devoid of any skill, originality or general merit. I did have the courtesy to tell the staff at reception of my opinions, but they appeared uninterested. My advice to anyone intending to visit - don’t waste your time or money

I have enjoyed several shows here in the last couple of years, most recently the Thierry Muglier exhibit, which was beautifully staged and lit.
Well organized/curated shows, pleasant courteous staff and a great building for light and space.
The restaurant is also very pleasant, perfect for a lunch or breakfast after a stroll in the adjacent parks,

The Kunsthal currently has a couple of great and very colorful contemporary exhibitions. Especially “In the black fantastic” displays some very colorful and impressive art by a number of African artists. Also “Body of Work” by Madeleine Berkheimer very colorful, especially pink, and very much worthwhile. There is also a popular restaurant in the Kunsthal.

We enjoyed the Ai Weiwei Exhibition at the Kunsthal this month. The Kunsthal is located in Rotterdam's city centre close to river Meuse and within walking distance of the Lijnbaan shopping area, the Markthal and the well known Euromast. There is a small museum shop and museum shop as well. An enjoyable visit!

The entry fee was expensive and they offered no Senior discount.
The fact that gallery 2 was closed and part of gallery 5 was shut as well I thought that they had no right to charge full price if galleries were closed off.
Some of the areas were not accessible to people who had difficulties walking or prams e.g. Gallery 6.

As art museum goes, this is unique and very different to many. The ideas are very unusual and perhaps odd.
Beware if you have young children, some parts are nightmare inducing and some with adult content.
It’s different and I kind of like some of the ideas. But some parts are somewhat disturbing.

Went here to see the Richard Avedon photo exhibition. See some pictures attached. Really interesting and well executed. The gallery is in lovely gardens. It has a nice cafe and full shop. Full price was 18 euros which is expensive I think.

The Kunsthal currently has two great exhibitions going on: the quite spectacular Thierry Mugler - Couturissime with large collection of his extravagant and exhilarating theatre and pret-a-porter costumes ... very special indeed. And then upstairs a selection of the best paintings from the neighbouring Boijmans-van Beuningen which is closed for renovations. Together good for a full half day of artistic entertainment! Parking is easy in the Museum parking garage right next door.

EXHIBITION THIERRY MUGLER: COUTURISSIME
13 OKTOBER 2019 – 8 MAART 2020 - KUNSTHAL ROTTERDAM
A must for fashion lovers! Just be amazed by the beauty of glitter and glamor at this exhibition of fashion designer Thierry Mugler, who also created some mega cool photographs. He was the first fashion designer to have multiple fashion models show his fashion shows on the catwalk.
Until the 8th of March so there is still time to visit.
