This iconic building, close to the "Old Harbour" area and the "Willemsbrug" was built in the waning years of the 19th century. It was indeed the first "skyscraper" in Rotterdam and for a considerable period the tallest office building in Europe. The "Witte Huis" miraculously survived the devastating bombing of May 1940 and was restored to the original architecture in... More

Compared to the other buildings in Rotterdam, this one is pretty traditional, not as "crazy" as the others. Still beautiful though, located in a cool area, near water, bars and restaurants.

Amazing survival during WW2. Nice old harbour area, old shipyards, docks, bridges and virtually CBD. Blaak station nearby, a few water side café s .

This tall building now used as a office building survived the war and was build in the late 1800's. You can take an elevator to the top and have a great view of the city

Stopped here after visiting the Dutch Marines museum. It was filled with locals. The beer was good and the staff friendly what is not to like.

One of the landmarks for the old harbour. It houses a bar & restaurant on its bottom floor but looks empty above that. Shame really but a nice photo opportunity none the less as it an iconic building: the first skyscraper in Europe !

Special architecture that marks the beginning of the "skyscraper-era" in Europe. Nice building in a very nice area with so much to see!

This is one of the oldest buildings in Rotterdam, that survived the second world war, not the oldest though. Still as it was built in 1897 it is old and a nice monument to see... also in combination with the newer skyscrapers behind it. When it was built it was the first skyscraper in the Netherland and Europe... however when... More
