THE LONGEST CHURCH OF THE NETHERLANDS The great fire of 1552 destroyed much of the medieval church of Saint John. Shortly after the disaster, the council commissioned the reconstruction of the most startling church of Holland. With 123 meters it is also the longest church in The Netherlands THE 72 STAINED-GLASS WINDOWS ARE WORLD-FAMOUS Entering the Church of St. John, one falls silent at the sight of the majestic space with the 72 world-famous stained-glass windows. That first experience will only get stronger when you see the marvellous light by the 'Dutch Masters' invading the Church. The rich history of Holland can be read in the large windows. It is a beginning of an impressive discovery along biblical and historical scenes of human emotions. Then you understand that the Gouda St. John is one of the highest rated attractions in the Netherlands!

The Church Sint Jan has remarkable windows. The painting itself are already special but with the sunlight through it is just spectular. A nice detail was to see how other cities promoted themselves by putting their weaponry up.

If in Gouda you must go inside Sint-Janskerk just to see the fabulous stained glass windows dating from the 1550s. They are wonderfully detailed and a tribute to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen who made them. It is incredible to think that they still have the original drawings from which they were produced.

A beautiful church with amazing and breathtaking windows. It is the longest church in the Netherlands and contains graves of important people. On the special day in Gouda that is called; candle night, the church had free entrance and looked like a market. People having stands and selling different kind of products, food, drinks (also delicious mulled wine) and different... More

when I visited there, it was so empty so I had an amazing time with amazingly beautiful stained glasses. it might be a quiet trip from Amsterdam but worth to visit even just this place.

This old cathedral is well known for its remarkable collection of stained glass windows depicting both biblical and historical scenes. Booklets with explanation are available in several languages. Really worthwhile visiting although not on Sundays as on Sundays it is still used for its original purpose. Of course, you are welcome to join the congregation for the service. If you... More

Monday is not a good day to visit Gouda. As one waiter explained, they are 'Reformed', i.e. under the influence of the Reformed Church and many places are closed. Sint Janskerk, to give its Dutch name is a huge building with amazing stained glass windows and a terraced nave, surrounding the pulpit, which the longest in the Netherlands. Well worth... More

This church is so magnificent, and the stained glass windows are breathtaking! There is a nominal entrance fee and audio guides are available. It's one of the longest churches in the country. Well with the visit!

On our way from parking near Bestwestern to our restaurant we saw this beautiful church in the centre of the city, where I believe only walkers and cycles are allowed. The church being in the centre of the market place attracts everyone' attention with its majestic and architectural beauty. I did not find it open when we were there but... More
