The Vermeer Centrum Delft offers the visitor a discovery tour through the life, works and town of the 17th century master of light: Johannes Vermeer. The section 'Vermeer's world' shows you 17th century Delft. Wander through the famous 'View of Delft' and meet Vermeer's environment: his clients, his family and his rich mother-in-law. In Vermeer's world there are copies of all his paintings in their original size, an entire own world in his 37 works. Vermeer's atelier is dedicated to Vermeer's working methods. Discover how Vermeer mastered light in the light studio. Experiment with the camera obscura and play with colour, hidden views and perspective. And literally step into one of Vermeer's paintings. Many of the Delft painter Johannes Vermeer's paintings are about love. Sometimes it is obvious, but other times he subtly refers to it by painting certain objects or details. These objects and details can be seen in the exhibition 'Vermeer's love messages'. Learn to recognise the symbols in Vermeer's paintings. Besides a visit to the centrum, Vermeer can also be discovered on foot. An individual walk has been set out along all the highlights in Vermeer's life. The Vermeer Combiticket gives you access to all the locations.

The story of Vermeers life told through some very poor reproductions of his work. Vermeer is the amster of light and yet the lighting in the exhibition is atrocious, although they may be trying to hide the poor quality of the prints. The area showing how Vermeer used light left me feeling more confused than when I started. All in... More

Sorry to hear that your visit was not optimal. We try to exhibit the work of Vermeer as well as possible. But that is not always to everyone's taste. I do hope that you enjoyed Delft. More

Was a little reluctant to part with €9 per person to visit a museum I knew nothing about but it was very cold outside! The museum was well laid out and provided a good balance between information on the subjects of Vermeer's paintings, the surrounding history and the techniques he used. The audio tour helped make the information more accessible... More

There were a number of areas which left us dissatisfied here. The constantly playing ( blurred) video was in the same room as the painting reproductions so was a great distraction to the audio guide. The audio guide did not cover every work, not even the Girl with a Pearl Earring. The commentaries were a little stilted, in English but... More

This museum tells the story of Vermeer's (short) life and (limited) portfolio of work well. The admission charge includes an audio tour which provides a worthwhile commentary additional to the written material that accompanies the reproductions of his paintings. Be aware that there are no original paintings on display here but, in fairness, this is because there are so few... More

Vermeer is Delft's favorite son (artist) and the museum does a nice job describing his works and his techniques using light and color. This is a fun stop after seeing his work at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. None of his paintings are here.

We always recommend to visit us and to see the real paintings in other musea. It is so much nicer to look at a painting when understanding the artist. We are glad you enjoyed your visit. More

The Vermeer Center is a great place to learn about Vermeer's technique and inspirations. His use of light transformed the art world. Cost is €9 with audio guide included. While there are no original pieces here (kind of a bummer) you will see most of his work and gain a better understanding of his ground-breaking techniques. The staff was kind... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Vermeer Center. Although it hasn't any Vermeer originals it does have copies of all of his 37 works. An exhibit explains the hidden symbols in many of his paintings. The center includes a mock up of Vermeer's studio with some fascinating exhibits of his techniques. This is a must see attraction in Delft... More
