We were by the Sassenpoort earlier in the week, but it wasn't open. Just the building alone from the outside is incredible. It is one of the old city gates from the medieval ages. Inside, you walk up a circular stair way to the first floor. Here you pay your 2.40 Euros for the entrance fee. This floor has maps... More

Sassenpoort, situated at the corner of Sassenstraat and Wilhelminasingel, is one of the remaining defense wall. It is possible to go inside but you have to know first the schedule. Really nice history :) Aside from this, Zwolle has a beautiful medieval centre, with lots of well preserved and archeologically interesting building. It has lot of things to offer and... More

This really nice city gate and very tall. I saw it only from the outside. It is a must see when visiting Zwolle and is in the central area. I don't know if it is possible to visit inside but I didn't see anyone going in on the Sunday I visited. I've seen many other nice city gates in the... More

Impressive and well maintained tower. Looks very nice at night with all the lights. Very characteristic for the city.

We had down loaded the phone app with the walking tour of Zwolle and it pointed us toward this Tower, the remains of the defense wall from 1406, just amazing you must see this.

Swung by here while walking around the town. It is very pretty with its high steeples and artwork It is a shame that the others were all torn down or destroyed! This town must have been magnificent when they all stood! One negative, we got there at 4:30 and the lady was already locking up the gift store even though... More

While evidence of multiple restoration works can clearly be seen it doesn't detract from the charm of this historic town gate complete with it's fairy tale tower. Visitors can climb the tower for 3 euros, children for 1.

This is one of the more interesting city gates in the Netherlands and a must see, if you are in Zwolle.

A nice historical site. We recommend you walk all along the old city walls and gates, for around the whole old town you will find many beautiful and interesting historical places like city walls, gates, bridges, but also houses and other buildings.

Just outside the city centre you have the Sassenpoort. Good for pictures or a hidingplace if its raining. There is a parking lot really close (just across the bridge) and a busstop a little further down the street. Visit the Sassenpoort before you start your day in the city centre of end the day with this!
