About
At the harbour of Marken you will find a ‘small museum house’. It’s designed as a old original House in Marken. Here you can see the period furniture and decor and you can see how the people from Marken lived in the early days. This tiny house is exactly furnished as how a Marken fishing family lived there until about 1932. The walls of the house are covered with colorful signs and prints.

Market and volendam both are so relaxing places.
The old Dutch culture is so beautiful and simple.. the houses were so small that it is hard to believe that how such a small house could accommodate so many members.
Cruise and the small restaurants are different charm.. a mu st visit place for everyone and for all ages.. especially if you're in stress.. just go

You actually don’t realise how little people had & yet they seemed so content.
This house gives a good view of how things were - definitely don’t miss it ❤️

When they say small, they mean small. You walk in to pretty much 1 room. There's a video playing on repeat explaining everything, speaking in Dutch with English subtitles. You're behind a barrier with the space to stand of about 2m squared, leave prams outside. I liked learning the history but it nearly did feel worth it for the 10mins we were in there

We received a very good information from the lady at the entrance about the house and living on the island.
A big group arrived just after we entered, there should be no groups allowed.

Small, tiny, cosy. Give it a name. You can see how people live here in former days butr actually not much has changed in this village in the past 200 years. The only thing are the tourists...

Another small house that shows how people lived and dressed in Holland. You can learn a little bit about the history here and see some cool antiques .

This little house is tiny and crammed full of history. It is worth a visit to understand how Dutch fishing families lived in the past. The presenter spoke English easily and gave us so much information. She answered questions willingly. The cost of €1 per person is unbelievably low. Well worth a visit.

This tiny one room house is located opposite the boarding location of the ferry to Volendam and acts like a little museum. Entrance is free. Clearly visible is the authentic color scheme of typical blue and yellow. This is where the fishermen and their wives used to live. But the room has been overly decorated, unfortunately.

A very small typical house of Marken that everyone should visit. A polite lady described to us all the details that a Marken family lived there and raised their family. I was impressed by the tiny room they had to live comparing the houses we live.
