Description:

Beeld en Geluid (The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision) has one of...

Beeld en Geluid (The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision) has one of the largest audiovisual archives in Europe. The institute manages over 70 percent of the Dutch audiovisual heritage. The collection contains more than 850.000 hours of television, radio, music and film from the beginning in 1898 until today. Thousands of hours from this collection are made available to the public in the Sound and Vision experience, a museum located right on top of the archives. Temporary exhibitions also take place here. Visitors can read the news, be a real star on stage or act in a soap opera. Dutch radio and television personalities take visitors on a virtual tour in the world of radio and TV and give them a glimpse behind the scenes. While the kids are singing, dancing, producing or acting, parents and grandparents can sit down in an easy chair and enjoy the video and audio material from the early days of film until now.

As a building it is stunning. It was intended to be a moving image archive though.

In the drab surroundings of the Dutch Media Park at Hilversum, this building is a stunning one, even more inside than outside. It has rightly one several prizes. However, this is... read more

This is a really nice museum for all ages. You can easily spend more than a half a day to explore all attractions in this museum. It doesn't matter whether your children are 5, 8 or 11, the will have a lot of fun and you're lucky if you're able to find them back :) But although the positive start.... More

In the drab surroundings of the Dutch Media Park at Hilversum, this building is a stunning one, even more inside than outside. It has rightly one several prizes. However, this is the public side; on the side of the offices and repositories it is much less stunning. It was supposed to be a national image and sound archive only, without... More

This is a typical Dutch memory institute. People from other countries will not recognize many things.

Unlucky the language is only Dutch there is no English. The museums is pretty big to visit and it has a lot of mini games to play in the... More

We went to the insitute (Beeld en Geluid) with a school trip with 9-11 year olds. It was so much fun. The kids could discover, experience, see, hear and try everything. From making a movie with stop motion, to reading the news, being a dj, performing on stage, directing behind stage etc. also informative information about the history of television... More

A big box, yes, but with a second skin of engraved colourful glass, and a playful interior with tiers motives repeated on the ceiling and deep into the underground levels, and a dialog between semi-transparency and reflection, that duplicates the visual space. I was not motivated enough by the exhibitions to pay the 16 euros fare, but I enjoyed the... More

The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision is situated at the media park in Hilversum at an inspiring building. The institute shows what is going on through decennia of radio and television making. This exhibition is structured in an interactive way given visitors opportunities to be part of programs and to make your own show. A lot of attention is... More
