Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Historical Church, the Mayflower Pilgrims Might Have Prayed Here
Jul. 2019
Sweet and simple little hidden Catholic Church in the Begijnhof, with a small entrance. Don't miss the bench on the right side, which might have been used by the Mayflower pilgrims, and also take a look at the old Bible in front of the alter. I visited as part of Rick Steves free "Amsterdam City Walk" audio tour - do a search online to download it!

Service style very familiar if you're UCC/Congregational
Nov. 2019
The bulletin (program) is available ahead online. Service style is traditional and very familiar if you're a UCC'er or a Congregationalist. There is sitting for the children's message, scripture readings, and sermon. You'll stand for hymns. There is a greeting time (pass the peace). It's the closest option if you're an English speaker and you're staying near Dam Square. Other churches were at least 20 minutes away by tram. There is Sunday School, but visiting children weren't explicitly invited to attend. They serve coffee/refreshments after worship.

Cast demons away (or else make them comfortable..)
Aug. 2019
Although the church is open for tourists, my wife and I attended for Sunday worship in the Reformed tradition. The service is English language as it has been since 1609. (review title is loosely based upon the gospel and sermon of the day.) The visiting Scots pastor preached fine sermon and the congregation sang hymns with gusto. Our ancestors left here in 1620 so it was good to give the genes some historic spiritual perspective.

Anglo-American History

Part of the Bejinhof complex, this church interestingly enough has a place in American history, as the Pilgrims worshiped here before settling in America. Besides that, it is a nice historic building, with the added feature of having old English plaques around the walls.

It started out as a Catholic church........
Sep. 2018 • Couples
Then in the mid 1500's it became a no-no to be Catholic, so it was easy for the Dutch Reformed to kick the Catholics out and simply walk in. Then the Dutch Reformed got the same treatment from the English as the Anglicans moved in in 1607.

I guess a law suit would not have made a difference back then...it would have been settled by a sword.

Nice enough really though no major attractions. Pop in when visiting the Bejinhof. Plain wood for the most part.

Apr. 2018 • Couples
This church is in the beginning. There is a leaflet on the way in.

Look at the far window it was paid for by the us a to comenerate the pilgrim fathers some of them lived in Amsterdam and of course Leiden.

I also loved the burgers pews.

A donation is suggested yo help with the upkeep.

This small church is situated on the "Begijnhof"
Feb. 2018 • Couples
After you have admired the Begijnhof, a bonus is a short visit to the English Reformed Church, situated in a corner of the Begijnhof. The interior is severe, to be expected from a protestant church. The tourist is welcomed by a member of the staff, who will direct you to the explanatory plasticized document, in the correct language, where you can read a brief history and mark the historic treasures in the church. There was already a church on this spot in the 13th century. the existing building was founded in the 14th century. Worth a visit.

Beautiful.
Jan. 2018 • Friends
In one of Amsterdams most beautiful and historic area is the beautiful English Reformed Church.
Located in Begijnhof this simple plain church is one of Amsterdams oldest buildings dating from 1392,we stumbled on it as we were wandering around this part of town and what a great find.
Besides the beautiful church you have some amazing architecture and the area in general is really peaceful.
If your a keen photographer don't forget the snapper as you will take some great photos.
The English Reformed Church is found on Begijnhof and is well worth checking out.
