Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

10 stars….great history lesson by Rosalie. One can easily go back in time with her knowledge about this place and Amsterdam as well. This tour is worth the time, money and stairs….:)..and finally when you are all the way up, the whole city and its buildings unfolds before your eyes.

It has been a nice stroll along the Oudekerkplein seeing the church but the tower was worth the stop. The passage to the tower was not opened when we were there, they said it could be on a Saturday of the month we were around. so we just content ourselves to viewing it from outside. A nice tower, one of the three old towers we saw within the city.

A marvelous tower which takes you back in time. The view from the top was amazing. The best was our guide Adrian.

The church was hosting an art installation for several months, until April 2020 which involved blackout of the windows and just a few candle-lit stands. As a result it was virtually TOTALLY DARK and walking was hazardous especially for anyone with difficulty walking; the floor slabs are uneven and dangerous. We were told that photography is allowed! Oh yes, in the dark? None of the lovely architecture could be seen at all. We were charged 15 euros each for entry to see this total nonsense. Don’t visit until and unless they get rid of this un-Christian trick.

There is nothing much inside the church but it is such an amazing and huge place it is worth a visit. There are often art installations and some interior features remain.

If you are tourist, you really can't avoid this area. The church is nothing much to look at inside, but all around, lots of interesting things to look at.

This old church sits right in the middle of the red light district. It’s a nice church. The tower is high and makes for good pictures. And there is some space around it to rest and the rest of the area is pretty crowded.

A waste of 10 euros! Currently there is an artist installation in which all the windows, including the stained glass ones, are covered in red cellophane type material so the entire inside is red tinted! I couldn’t even read the information pamphlet without a flashlight. There is no pamphlet or display about the history of the church. Nothing. There was also a loud group of young girls taking crazy photos inside and being loud. I thought the bell tower would make the admission fee worth it, but was told by the employee/volunteer that a separate organization runs that for an additional charge! Too many other historical structures to see in Amsterdam, don’t waste your money here! Ridiculous.

Oudekerkstoren is a beautifully tall church tower that that dates back to the thirteenth century. The tower was raised in the sixteenth century and stands out as you wander in the vicinity.

You need to have good knies to climb this tower. For € 7,50, you will enjoy the view of the city centre of Amsterdam when it's not cloudy.
