Wondered in here after a night at the theater. One of the oldest establishments in Amsterdam. So much character and history in a very cozy place. We had to create our own seating area with a old barrel as our table. I loved it.
Apparently one of the oldest bars in town and one of the only places licensed to sell spirits. We visited on a weekday evening and it had several locals and a friendly barman whose family has owned the cafe for 150 years. He engaged in...More
Stopped by as part of the Hungry Birds walking food tour. Run by the son, who was a great guy. Wide selection of beers, liquors on a quaint corner. Not the loudest or fanciest, but a great spot for a beer and some people-watching.
The cafe is nice with a historical identity and good for a drink once and a while. But when you close the toilets on Kings Day even selling drinks is a neglect towards your paying customers. No value for money.
As others have said, this isn't at all touristy. It's a locals bar but very warm and welcoming.

If you’re a US tourist in Amsterdam, a small corner bar that has no lively music may not immediately attract your attention. However I’d encourage you to try this. Even though everyone in there certainly seemed local and speaking the vastly unfamiliar (to me) Dutch...More
This is a typical old fashioned Amsterdam's café. It looks like your living room with a large bar.
They have large variety of alcoholic but also non alcoholic drinks. They also serve typical Dutch bar food. All this at a reasonable price. We were there...More
