I was surprised to find that there wasn't any coffee for sale (and the cafes around it were packed), but there were stands selling Poffertjes (small dutch pancakes), fresh produce, and aged cheese that was safe to travel with because they don't need to be constantly refrigerated. I purchase fruit, cheese, outerwear, shoes, blouses, t-shirts, and a lot more. After that, I go to The Church to see my preferred book sellers. Together with stalls offering both new and old clothes, there were sellers selling antiques. A fairly large farmers' market with many stalls. You can find cooked food, fresh farmers' produce, clothings and little knickknacks here. A very nice spot to enjoy a leisurely Saturday morning.

You can find so much delicious-ness at this market. We also went to the Albert Cuyp market the previous day and enjoyed both but this one seemed to have more in the way of fresh foods and we just found more to our liking here. Make sure to stop if in Amsterdam. Believe it is Saturday morning only.

I stayed in an apartment a few blocks away so this was definitely on my to-do list. It isn't the largest market but everything is top quality and you can tell that the food vendors were proud of what they were selling. The first thing I did was sit down at a counter to have a breakfast Dutch pancake with bacon and syrup. (Think French crepe). Yum, and only €4. One booth was selling 40+ types of mushrooms. I bought some delicious raspberry jam from a woman who said she comes in for the market from the south of The Netherlands. A few booths selling great looking bread and desserts. A few booths with great looking fruits and vegetables. And, of course, cheese, cheese, cheese. About half the market was a flea market with clothes, bric a brac, etc. But one booth had 80+ year old etchings and prints that I looked over for 15 minutes and another booth had interesting antique tiles from houses. These were only €10 and €20, depending on size and age. If you could find them elsewhere I am sure they would cost double. OK, a nice little fair and some purchases to munch on in my apartment the next couple of days. Then I saw a lot of people walking on a side street so I checked it out. Who knew that just a couple of end blocks away there was an even larger Saturday street market?! The Lindengracht Markt with about 200 stalls and about 3 blocks long. This market was a mix throughout of food and merchandise. I had the impression that the food here was less expensive because it's not "organic". But everything looked great to me; they probably just can't win the lottery to get into the primo Noordermarkt. So if you combine these two neighboring markets together, it's definitely worth going to. On my trip to Amsterdam, I went to other markets. The Albert Cupt Market is large with lots of food to graze on while you walk around and the best choice of new inexpensive clothing, leather products, etc. Every day except Sunday. It's in a working class neighborhood, but safe to walk around. The Waterlooplein Market was my least favorite. But the combined Saturday Noordermarkt/Lindengrachtmarkt would be my choice if I only had time for only one. And it's in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the City.

Spent a lovely Saturday morning at this great street market. We took tram #3 and alighted at Marnixplein station. 10 mins walk along Westerstraat and you should find this lovely market. What I like about the Noordermarket vs the Albert Cuystraat market is that Noordermarket is less commercial and you really shop shoulder to shoulder with the locals. The Cheeses, Chocolate, Soups, Seafood, fresh fruits are out of this world. Great choice of clothings, esp for the ladies at a great price as well. Another great market, the Lindengracht market is only a block away. You can easily spend 3 hours in these 2 markets to absorb in the great atmosphere.
The dutch are probably the friendliest people on this earth and are always ready to help. When we seemed lost on which direction to take from the tram station, a really nice local lady actually walked 10 mins with us just to make sure we arrive at the Noordermarket safely! Am really in love with this great country and her friendly citizens!

Unremarkable. Average farmers' market. Might as well check out if sightseeing Jordaan neighbourhood or going to Winkel 43 for the apple pie. Otherwise no need to go out of one's way to find.

Loved this place, nothing like fresh fruit..... fresh veges and my favourtie Fresh bread. The Croissants were to die for.

I went at around 10am on a Saturday morning and was not disappointed, it is only open on a Saturday so plan accordingly. Stall upon stall of amazing produce, tantalizing baked goods, meats and charcuterie, an assortment of prepared foods to feast on, cheeses, seafood, teas and coffee, flowers, clothing, books, leather goods, shoes, electronics, flea market type stalls, vendors selling new products, the list is endless of what you can find here. The vendors were friendly, spoke English and very approachable and it was a great mix of both tourists and locals.
When I first got there I thought it was just the stalls outside the church, but then I wandered down a few blocks behind the church and found a few more miles of stalls so be sure to see the whole thing. Definitely the best place to buy cheese to bring home, as it is cheaper than the chain stores in the tourist areas.
Also lots of live musicians playing in various places, on a sunny day this place was a little bit of paradise. By the time I saw all the stalls and ate I was there about 3-4 hours.

There is an open air market held at Noordermarkt just outside Noorderkerk on Mondays and Saturdays that can make for a fun way to spend an hour while sightseeing around Amsterdam on those days.
If you visit on non-market days, there is little to see on the square beyond the simple church and the interesting contemporary statue called Eenheid de sterkste keten (The Strongest Chain is Unity). This is the works of sculptor Sophie Hupkens (1987). What you will see are three female figures connected, symbolising women who united against Colijn's discount measures that contributed to the Jordan Riot of 1934.
You can also visit Winkle 43 for their famous Dutch style apple pie at Noordermarkt if you visit on non-market days.

This was one of the last, best neighborhood markets in the city (the sat am organic market). Has become unbearable--can't walk, a steady stream of ubers disgorging gawking tourists. (If you have to take an uber in amsterdam--a car averse city--please take it to schipol.) Very sad, but this is one of the worst casualties of the venice-ificatin of amsterdam. Vendors are offering less normal food for normal people--more tourist crap--prices for normal stuff like flowers have jumped. I only now go in the dead of winter when the tourists are kept away by the cold rain and hail and we take back the city. The Jordaan in general has become disney-land, but this market was the last haven of normality. No more.

Great place to go in Amsterdam on a Saturday morning. The market is full of colorful people and lots of good products to find. Very good food stalls - bread, cheese, vegetables and also clothes, bags, flowers. The market is surrounded by nice cafes and the square is really pretty.

Would you consider this a budget friendly market, or more on the tourist trap side? Looking for small and inexpensive souvenirs or food to buy while visiting, and wanted to know if this is the right place to visit or if you know of other affordable markets in Amsterdam?

This is a mix of flea market and food vendors. No tourist things to buy. Go to Albert Cuyp market for that. The foods were a lot of cheese,bakery items, fruits/veg and meats. Reasonable

Can you assis with telling me where the best places to shp would be? ie, markets as apposed to retail shops if it works out to be cheaper and days and times that are best to shop. thanks

No it is open on Mondays as well, all year long. You can decorate and furnished your house. for very little money, and bartering is a must.
