Wandering around Amsterdam 3 years ago I wondered into this tiny bar that's been in business since 1798. It's my automatic stop whenever I'm in town. The atmosphere is great, decor matches the age. In its 6th Generation of family owners you are treated very warmly even if your passing through. The beer on tap - Texels is a limited... More

My partner and I stopped in here for a couple of drinks and were so glad we found it! It's absolutely tiny, with old furniture and knick knacks that give it such a unique atmosphere and character. The owner was a lovely guy, who recommended cocktails and was so friendly. We were lucky enough to get a seat by the... More

Just exceptional...full of old world character...a real step back in time. The bar owner is a lovely man who will pour great beer and play old jazz vinyls on the record player. Could easily stay all day...a must visit for visitors wanting to immerse themselves in the city's (drinking) history.

After 30 years and thanks to Trip Advisor a return to this exceptional, unique, super super super cool place. Without doubt my favourite drinking place *anywhere*. Atmosphere unique, gins served par excellence and a superlative ranger of scotch and whiskey. What is there not to like. And still run by the same family. Enjoy.

You can not pass by Amsterdam without having a drink in this amazing little bar ! One of the oldest (and probably smallest) bar of Amsterdam (open in 1798), we appreciated it's unique atmosphere and decoration, it's jazz music in background and it's very friendly owner ! For sure, We'll be back ++

Wow! We found this bar by accident and thank God! This is the dream place if you want to have a conversation and you like romantic places, good beer and jazz! If you like electro and huge crowded places do not waste your time here. At the time we were there we could get a table for two, but it... More

Great - though smallest - place in Amsterdam old town. Amazing atmosphere, soft jazz and uncomparable gins served by a friendly and knowledgeable elderly bar tender. Fantastic way to top the evening.

Good place for an authentic Amsterdam Bruin Cafe. Behave like a tourist and go and shame yourself, on a day trip to party in Amsterdam - Go somewhere else, Want to talk to your friends about the meaning of life or just discuss nothing... Order a whiskey at the bar. only seating places, if full - leave the guest alone... More

This is an authentic Amsterdam beauty, small, packed with atmosphere with a touch of the Miss Haversham in the décor, great beer and a genuinely friendly manager (who took our photo behind the bar !) In its way, it simply cannot be bettered.
