Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Best place in Amsterdam to have a wild night.
One of if not the best bar in town...a hidden treasure. This relatively small 150 year old typical Amstrrdam bar is relaxed in the day and turns into a wild place at night. And the best thing is the mix of people, anything goes. Old sailors, locals, tourists, students, skaters and drags It really doesn't matter who or what you are.

Great place to drink, dance and be merry.
Great fun place, surprise to find such a lively spot in that part of town. Was not expecting to have such a good night with friendly locals. Will definitely visit again. Good music and decent drinks. Open late and very welcoming.

    Friendly, fun and quirky
We stumbled in here after walking for miles and were welcomed by the staff and regulars. They played great music, there was an adorable dog and the bartender was fun to chat with. Instead of staying for one drink we stayed for many. This ended up being one of my favorite bars in the city!

Classic Neighborhood bar with a great view and an awesome crew!
My Friend Jasper, took me to his favorite neighborhood bar, on the Prins Hendrikkade, in Amsterdam, and it was the best of times. A comfy couch inside, a comfortable couch and seating outside, a classic juke box, good music that evolved from classic rock, and 80's jams to good groovey house and old school Detroit techno (Octave One came on and I was loving it). The vibes were right and bartender was hilarious and friendly. There was a good mix of locals young and old and everyone was having a great time. I will be back next time I am in A'Dam and hopefully some of the same crew will be there just like old friends!

A wonderful bar close to Amsterdam central station
I stopped intoCcafe Pollux today on arriving in Amsterdam. I came here in 2019 and loved the bar and the friendly staff. Returning today I was not disappointed with an incredibly friendly welcome from Helen. A fantastic selection of drinks, snacks and quirky decorations. A definite stop close to Amsterdam central station!

    BEST PUB IN AMSTERDAM
We stumbled upon this beautiful pub and had to go inside! The atmosphere inside is so chilled and we could spend all day and night in here. The staff are so welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. Helen offered us a taste of each beer so we could get the best one for us which we loved and really appreciated. We was also offered food and tried some of Helen’s homemade spicy veg dish and was AMAZING! couldn’t recommend this place enough! Make sure you plan your trip and come here for food and drink. Night time it turns into a club with foam/smoke/ music. Staff 20/10! Highly highly recommend and can’t wait to come back 😀

My work colleagues and I visited this bar last week and we were not sure what to expect but it was well worth it. Coming from the UK I don’t think I have experienced such a friendly bar full of friendly locals. For that short period of time it felt like we were one of the locals. The cocktails were great and so were the brugse zot! If we weren’t hungry then we would have stayed the night!

What an amazing place, the friendly welcome and hospitality from all the staff is remarkable... Especially a big thank you to Mito and Helen for making my family and I feel so welcome and even remembering what drinks we ordered the night before and even some yummy snacks- now that is what you call fantastic service. The vibe is so homely and fun. Definitely highly recommend visiting this place when traveling to Amsterdam.

The staff here are outstanding. Our waitress was lovely. The service was not the quickest, but I found the food fantastic. Halfway through our meal the waitress ran out apologising for forgetting two of our sides- the food was honestly so good we hadn't noticed anyway. We sat outside and enjoyed the great location (opposite the famous floating Chinese restaurant on the river.) The beer tasted very fresh and I greatly enjoyed our meal. I wish I had been staying longer as I would certainly have returned. I look forward to visiting again.

Staying at the nearby City Hotel it was on our way to and fro from the tram terminal. The decision required after a long day at a trade show was a few pints or some food as we had not eaten since breakfast. Me it was beer first then food while my colleague was the opposite.

As we walked the few meters from the hotel and about to pass the front door of Cafe Pollux the unresolved issue was solved here. We could do both. The cafe name had thrown us at first but it is in fact a lovely bar, full of character and for me the great hallmark of a pub is organised clutter.

Two pints of Warsteiner and the decision on food was self evident. 'Half a Cow' special with all the trimmings created by one of the chatty girls behind the bar had us won once we tasted it. Next day we were back again for the same fayre.

On returning to our hotel on Wednesday late-ish from out expensive pilgrimage to the Beer Temple the sound of the Blues eminating from Café Pollux just was too much to ignore. A more sensible person would have gone to bed but no, not us.

The stage is just about big enough for one entertainer and their equipment but somehow the Blues session was made up of several participants that gave an impromptu feel to what I am sure is brilliant regular event. Neither of us remember the 50 yards to the Hotel except that it was around 2.30 am. !

In short this is a really good bar with the happiest staff you will meet. The food is served with such enthusiasm that it just tastes better. The small stage is not to be ignored as it is merely the focal point as I had not noticed the permenant fixture of an electric piano that looked like furniture in the daytime. Seek it out. Best reference point is that it is on the opposite side of the canal from the big colourful structure that is the China Sea Restaurant .
